@Howard BealStockton wasn't the attention getter. He had his
flaws but wanted privacy. Some respect that and find it refreshing. I have heard
the surly stories, but Karl Malone has displayed his with brashness. Stockton is
faithful to his wife unlike you know who. When Stockton announced
his playing days were done, instead of letting John have his moment, Karl made a
circus about himself, and how John should have told him first. Karl is the one
with endless opinions that are nothing more than illusions of grandeur. He wants
to be everybody's hero all the time. He bad mouths people who don't
worship him and is a narcissist. Karl flopped and chocked in the
clutch. John did not. In fact even though Malone was the scorer, John made all
the biggest shots in Jazz history. Think about it. He staved off elimination in
Sacramento with a buzzer beater down one to win. The Jazz won the series the
next game. Of course we have 'THE SHOT' in Houston sending the Jazz to
the finals. Stock scored 13 points in the last 3 minutes of that game. Malone
chocked 3 Finals games vs. Chicago. Think missed free throws.
Bruce Van De Velde is a fool.
it would be nice if Karl was the strength and conditioning coach for the Jazz...
Karl has the pull, he should immediately organize a January 1st bowl game for
the Bulldogs! But who could he invite to play against them? The Utes would be
available with an NCAA waiver as well.
A real mans man doesn't tweet....
@BigAlvin of Colorado Springs: the AD admitted that he missed a deadline and
should have responded. He waited too long. I really like Karl Malone for
sticking up for Coach Sloan even if the coach didn't want him to. I also
do not understand why Karl is treated so badly.
After all that Karl Malone have did for them, they do a 360 on him?
You gotta know when to hold, and know when to fold 'em.Too bad
there isn't malpractice insurance for coaches and ADs. Then all the
malcontents could have their day in court. Only, I'd make sure there was a
stipulation of "loser pays."That MIGHT, just might, quiet
the arm-chair quarterbacks who are positive they know how to do it right. After
someone else did it wrong that is.
Any AD who is so incompetent as to cost his team a bowl has no business being an
The Hall of Famer and astute businessman has every right to comment this time
(he always has a right even when he's wrong) but is actually qualified and
distinguished alum. I would've watched the two Louisiana schools shoot it
out, that could have been one of the more entertaining games. Not giving an
answer is the same as declining the AD dropped this one. La Tech should listen
they could use some donations. K. Malone can come teach AJ anytime not
sure why he would want to coach full time though it interferes with huntin.
@CWEB...why in the world should some other team bow out just because LaTech
dragged its feet and missed out on a bowl game?AD should be at least
reprimanded by the University for costing it $$$. This is a shame for the team
that had a good season. But then all of College Football is messed up. Bowl
season is a chance for schools that had good years to play one more game. Bowls
get to pick who plays in them. If the only bowl that wanted LaTech was this one
then it's LaTech's fault for not taking it. Messier still is the fact
that GaTech, had they won the other night, would have played in a BCS game with
a 7-6 record. Instead they 'can't' be excluded from the bowl
picture. NCAA should be reprimanded as well for giving GaTech a waiver to play
despite a losing record. It's all messed up...and LaTech should have
accepted a good bid that would have created a fun, competitive, rivalry game.
Shame on all involved and condolences to the LaTech players.
Karl is absolutely correct on this - La Tech's AD is solely responsible for
costing his team a bowl bid and should be fired.
There are too many bowl games anyway. The number of bowls should be cut by a
I never have truly understood the love affair Utahns have with John Stockton and
the disdain many (not all of course) have for Karl Malone. I mean, I had season
tickets for the Jazz and literally saw Stockton run through and hurdle over
children and other fans wanting his autograph. He was often surly with fans and
never quite understood that his salary was only made possible if the fans adored
him and find professional basketball interesting. Meanwhile Malone opened up
his hearts to the fans sometimes wearing his feelings on his sleeve. He got in
some beefs with Larry but usually he was on the side of right. He, like
Stockton, played hard and for reduced salaries they could have got somewhere
else. I don't want to come across as a Stockton hater by any
means. I loved how he played the game, rugged and tough and a team player and a
great family man. But one (Malone) let us in to his world and the other kept us
at arm's length and I just don't understand why people in Utah
especially make fun of Malone who did so much for our community.
Can't blame Karl for being upset. His passion for his alma mater is
understood and unusual in this day and age when most professional athletes
don't give a hoot about their university stepping stone to the big leagues:
unless of course it's someone like Reggie Bush wanting to return the
Heisman. The fact that LaTech's AD waited and held out hope for a
bigger bowl offering was valiant on his part but misguided. The offer never came
and the Independence Bowl offered the inviation to another school. LaTech got
shut out much to the dismay of their fans, who know their players, especially
their seniors, earned the right to play in a bowl game. The real losers are the
fans. Instead of getting to watch the #1 offense in the country they'll get
to watch losing teams like Georgia Tech, who BYU beat, play in a bowl game.Karl's upset as a fan and so would you be to if your 9-3 football team
got shut out from going to a bowl game.
Karl can have all the opinions he wants. The media can print them all.
They're just not important.
Hey folks, is dead right on this one. The AD should be fired and someone else
needs to take over. Haters dont like Karl because he speaks his mind and does
so without apology. Maybe they hate the fact that Karl is a uber rich man and
can now do what he wants. Not taking a bowl bid is a stupid thing to
do. It hurts recuiting, revenu to he school and fan support. Firing the AD is
the only soultion to this mess.
Same old, same old--Karl should engage his brain before his mouth or in this
case his blog. Question? Does Karl blog as badly as he speaks? After all he
doesn't have John to save him.
My beloved BYU Cougars should bow out, as they really don't deserve a bowl
bid, and let this team take their place. Really. BYU. Do it. Do what is
morally correct. Get out. Let these kids who actually earned a bowl bid go.
Our wins are against very poor teams, and we would avoid the embarrassment of
losing to San Diego...Unless...unless you are going to start James Lark, then,
well, maybe then you should go. But if you are starting Riley Nelson, then bow
Are you forgetting that Karl Malone once thought he should run for governor of
Utah? He believes we all hang on every word that proceedeth forth from his
mouth. Indeed, some may, but I honestly go for years without even thinking of
him (only to be jolted from my bliss by stories like this).
It's a shame that the WAC's #1 team is stuck playing in a $325K bowl
game, while the #2 goes to a $1 million bowl, and the #3 was at one point
unofficially slated for a $1.15 million one.And it's a shame
that the #3 team thought they would have been too good for it, and wound up
@ Dunkenstein, that was a classic take. Right on there.@Anne26, no I
don't get my feelings hurt easy and I do understand basketball. I also
didn't get offended when Karl went to the Lakers. None of that bothers me
or is applicable here. I just got tired of Karl Malone's act a long time
ago. When he played he flopped, whined, and chocked in the clutch. Karl's
lack of grammar and mental midget opinions are so old. These latest
comments Karl made sound familiar. He said the same thing to the Jazz
organization about calling him to run matters as he did his alma mater.
Dunkenstein was right, Karl coaching anything other than little league would be
Way to go Karl. There is no excuse for the poor management on the part of the
La Tech AD.
@ yarrlydarb. If you carefully read the story Karl can and did have his opinion
and we are now having ours. You have it backwards!
Sure, Karl can have an opinion, and he is free to tweet his opinion. Shoot, he
can even sing it from the rooftops if he wants; but if La. Tech takes him up on
his offer, they're nuts. He is too much of a drama queen to be the AD for
any Div. I school (and we won't even start on how big of a disaster it
would be to have him coach anything at a higher level than little league).
Karl can't have an opinion? Posters here have their comments, and often not
loving and sweet. Why can't Karl post his own feelings?
Run Forest Run. Oh I mean Karl. I mean his mouth.
Love, love Karl Malone. We were fortunate as fans to watch him play; both he
and John Stockton. I simply don't understand the haters. I have to think
they either don't understand basketball, or they are quick to get their
Karl is just being Karl. Time to update the story - La.Tech coaches claim they
didn't turn down any bowl bids.
Karl has important opinions? Since when?
Is Karl Malone some kind of celebrity or something?
I feel bad for the seniors on the La Tech team.
