    @Trouble and Sambone
The Boot is awarded to and based off of FBS teams. SUU and WSU are both FCS, and are not part of the competition. It's between Utah, BYU, and Utah State. That being said, as far as who could have one, Utah had a chance still. So BYU fans who think that they should get it because they beat USU will have to remember that Utah beat them, and Utah lost to USU so it comes down to the rest of the season, it is only fitting that the team that finished the regular season with an 18 AP rating and a 22 BCS rating having beaten a top 25 team on the road(Louisiana Tech) and the team that beat BYU and finished 24 (SJSU) should win the award. USU was the best team in the state this year. On one night, BYU played better than USU and won 6-3. But the rest of the year USU played better.

USU did beat SUU to tie up the in-state record to 2-1. I think either the competition either includes SUU now or Weber has been dropped.

I'm pretty sure the clincher for the Aggies getting the boot was BYU losing to SJSU, a team the Aggies beat earlier in the season.

How can USU win it when they lost to BYU? The Cougars were 2-1 against in state teams while both Utah and USU were 1-1. Since each team had a loss to another in-state team the boot should remain with the Utah media until next season when USU can win it outright.

USU's football related goals for next year:

    Wagon Wheel.
Beehive Boot outright (no media vote required).
    Conference Championship.
A victory in a really nice bowl game.

Given what we know today, all of those could reasonably be judged to be attainable.

I think the Aggies will win it outright next year. The U is still going to have O-line problems, and the Y wont have their monster D to bail them out.

    Congrats to my Aggies!

Pay Gary the money needed to keep him, and win the trophy outright next year!!!

    @ worf
Actually Worf BYU and USU were tied for in state victories. BYU had wins over USU and Weber State while USU had wins over Utah and SUU. I think that's the reason the media had to vote. Looking at common opponents between the two schools, USU beat San Jose on the road 49-27 while BYU lost to San Jose on the road 14-20.
Also, I think USU's victory of 19th ranked LaTech on the road helped seal the media's decision.

Congratulations to the Aggies. They've proved they are the best. They had a great year from start to finish.

Little doubt as to who will be the coach of the year in the WAC.

Great for BYU. They're the only in state team to beat the Beehive Boot champs, and own the most instate victories.

May the Wagon Wheel stay in Provo.

I just don't understand how the mighty u did not win it. How could a team who is in the conference of champions not win a trophy over USU and BYU? I guess pigs really can fly.
