Comments about ‘Child marriage perpetuates cycle of poverty for young people’

One of the most effective ways to combat infant mortality is to increase the literacy rate among women. The LDS Relief Society had a program for women to teach other women in third world countrines how to read.

The first two sentences of the article blow the rest of its credibility: "In the developing world, one in 10 girls is married before the age of 18. One in seven is married before 15." This is not mathematically possible.

I took it to mean - one in ten is married before age 18, and of those, 1 in 7 is under age fifteen. Don't look for problems. Try to grasp the bigger issue here. Children, the ones without a voice, are victimized and our biggest concern is getting into line in time for Black Friday.

This makes a good point but we are dealing in a world that has plenty of civil unrest and terrorism everyday. It can be a terror for a 9-year old to be the wife of a person that is older, much older.

However, in countries that have wars by rebels who are in it for gain and power, that is the real terror. Those young girls in many of those countries are raped and pillaged by their captors. They have had this type of occurrence over the years. They don't live in places that have mass communication so they know by word of mouth of others or when attacked by the rebels. They can't even go to school without the threat.

We live in such a wonderful place with moral standards and laws and order that others can only dream about.

We don't live in a country without laws and can go to sleep at night without fear and trembling in a place that has no door or real privacy. The people with guns (rebels) win. The Army may not be much better with their power.

Slave trade still exists and President Lincoln tried to stop it.
