TRUTH: There are currently 42 Black Democratic members of Congress and only 2
Black Republicans. There are 23 Hispanic Democratic members of Congress,
including Democratic Senator Robert Menendez from New Jersey, and only 8
Republicans. All 11 Asians in Congress, including 2 US Senators, belong to the
"To "Happy Valley Heretic" yes, the Democrats should answer why they
paraded around so much. Ever since Hillary Clinton began the quest to find out
about Obama's birth certificate, that is all I hear from about 1/3 of
democrats is that Obama was born in Kenya."This statement lacks
almost all credibility. I would love to see a single source that backs this
statement up. Not eve 1/3rd of Tea Partiers subscribe to this Donald Trump
driven issues. When you have the Donald offering 5 million for proof as
publicity stunt, and still no credible proof is delivered, you know this dog
just doesn't have legs. What a sad attempt to race-bait this
conversation. Mia deserves far more than this. You learn to win
through loosing. Mia will be smarter next time, and will drive her own campaign
next time for what ever office she runs for......
I just couldn't buy Love's insistence that she's a fiscal
Conservative. Her record showed otherwise. To balance her budget she raised
city taxes three (!!!) times and even raised her own salary. Fiscal restraint
starts in one's own backyard. Matheson was no perfect choice either, but
we know what we’re getting with him.
Both major parties HAVE TO COME TO THE MIDDLE. So many people on the right watch
FOX and those on the left watch MSNBC. Hannity and Rachel are making tons of
money and polarizing Their particular party to the extreme weakening our
country. Good luck to us all.Somebody surviving without a political
affiliation somewhere in the middle.
Mia Love lost because Matheson is not that liberal guy the far right paints him
to be. I was impressed with Utah voters. Even conservatives here in Utah value
Matheson's leadership over a rookie was being used by the far right to
represent them. Luckily Utah's voters saw through this.Love has
an impressive story. She is young. pretty and diverse, but her politics turned
it's back on her own success story, relative to others cut from the same
cloth to achieve the so called American dream like Mia did. I applaude
Mia's rise, but she was not ready to represent Utah, and needs to
reevaluate her own stance like the rest of the GOP on where they want to go. I
hope the stop pandering the richest %1
I would like to know how many votes she got in Saratoga Springs. I don't
know of anyone in our city who voted for her. That says a lot. She is a nice
person, but was not qualified for the job.
Yes Hillary may have raised the question but the Radio comedians, republicans
and their poster boys made it there own.-because 97.8% of
Republicans I've talked to believe it. Taking your lead I made up a bigger
number, so now I'm right, right?
To "Happy Valley Heretic" yes, the Democrats should answer why they
paraded around so much. Ever since Hillary Clinton began the quest to find out
about Obama's birth certificate, that is all I hear from about 1/3 of
democrats is that Obama was born in Kenya.
@Woodyff: "A large segment of our population consumes more than they
contribute..."Yes, and this large segment is call "the
elderly." Our largest entitlement program is Medicare, and those old people
certainly are taking more than they contribute. So I hope you plan to cover your
own medical insurance and expenses in your retirement, because you don't
want to be one of those freeloaders you so loudly decry.I'm OK
taking care of our elderly, because as a society we have decided that we will
take care of the most vulnerable among us through programs such as Medicare and
Social Security. I gladly contribute to those programs, knowing that my
grandparents and my parents will be well taken care of.
She'll be back, probably in 2014. Most conservatives were shocked by the
election because they get all their information from Fox Noise and Talk Radio.
They live in a bubble. The national polls were very accurate. The local polls
for the Love/Matheson race were not. That's because of who was doing the
polls and the fact they have very little knowledge of what is really happening
out on the streets. They like most Republicans still live in the past and
think names like Regean resonate with our youth and minorities. Those
consituents are growing and carry cell phones and live off the local pollsters
grid. In future electios pay attention to Nate Silver. That guy is a numbers
geek and is always spot on. But offcourse, you can continue to listen to Karl
Rove and Dick Morris if you prefer fantasy land instead of the real world.
TRUTHSalt Lake City, UTRacism pervades the Democratic
party......they will stop at nothing to see that minorities are not elected! Not
one black or hispanic is in the Senate or is Governor of any state that is not a
member of the GOP!4:03 p.m. Nov. 12, 2012=============
So off-based we should just ignore it...but, I recall
the President of the United States had a (D) next to his name on the ballot.Save the drama for your Mamma.Do youself a radio - stop
listening to AM hate radio.
Mia would have been a great representative. By the way, Ronald Reagan wanted to
dismantle the Department of Edumacation. He didn't do it but he ran on
that premise in 1980. So what's wrong with that today?Advise
to Jimmy, move into the district. We have some perfectly good homes he could
live in out in Kearns.
Mia gave it away. Her inner circle became smaller and smaller as election day
grew near. She turned away from those that got her the nomination. She relied
on "experts" from the outside to help her in Utah. She forgot it was a
local campaign. It was not rocket science. The mistakes she made were costly.
Her administrative skills were lacking. Maybe she will do better next time or
we will be fortunate and have a strong leader emerge. She is a nice lady, but
she is not a strong leader.
Mia, please run again. I live in Millcreek and I voted for you. I also voted for
Millcreek to become incorporated, but that measure lost too. The democrats who
voted against it weren't interested in "new taxes". However, that
doesn't stop them from voting for a president who will raise taxes on the
rich. Dems are more than willing to take a handout, but don't you dare
raise their taxes!
Sarah Palin, Jr.?
Perhaps she lost is because I rightly point out in this forum that a vote for
any conservative Republican (her) would be a vote to gut Social Security.
Perhaps enough people read that and changed their minds. In her city,
Saratoga Springs, where she is mayor, police at the time they were hired were
promised pay raises on a certain schedule, it is in their contract. Now these
police are being forced to take their lack of promised pay raises to
arbitration.Just as police pay has been gutted from what was
promised and what was expected, the same would happen with Social Security if
enough people like her were elected. We have pur ourselves in a hole
because of expensive needless wars that go on too long, and because of improper
and insufficient regulation of the financial industry, let us heal ourselves by
improving in these areas, not by taking a bite our of the poor and middle class.
Mia Love is not ready for prime time!I am surprised Jim Matheson
won. Not because he wasnt clearly the better choice, but because the Republican
party in this state have gerrymandered the Democratic party districts into
oblivion.I wish I could have voted for Matheson but Im stuck out
hete in blood red land in northern Utah.Keep fighting Dems, we are not
To Economist: We need more housewives, small town mayors in Washington DC
representing the PEOPLE! Please read Federalist #52! Our founding fathers
intentionally had very few formal qualifications to serve in the House of
Representatives. 25 years old, citizen, resident of the state where you
reside, and only 7 years living in the county. "the door of this part of the
federal government is open to merit of every description, whether native or
adoptive, whether young or old, and without regard to poverty or wealth, or to
any particular profession of religious faith." James Madison
Woodff - I am not challenging your right to have an opinion - that is for all to
have. What I am challenging is your opinion itself - simply stated that our
kids are all takers, freeloaders, and people on the dole. What I am challenging
it the notion that people who are on the "dole" and take from the
government are leaches on society. I am challenging that senior citizens - the
largest single block of people who get assistance - not young people as you
infer - are doing so only because they are lazy. Even if every ethnic person
in this country was taking government services, it would not out number the
number of seniors who are taking government assistance. You have
the right to believe the younger generation is a bunch of freeloaders, I choose
to believe they are no more so than any generation that came before them. And no - I do not make a practice of listening to El Rush-bo. I have on
occasion, and generally speaking I find him and his attitudes contra to the
things I have been raised to believe in. He is neither honest, praise worthy,
or of good report.
Surprised? I believe that most Republicans in the country were flat out stunned
by the election results.
Is there a Republican in the country who wasn't surprised at the election
results? Good heck, I'm not even a Republican and I was surprised.
@UathBlueDevil - the issue is not whether I have served and with more years of
experience and paying taxes for 50 years entitles me to an opinion. A large
segment of our population consumes more than they contribute and a society
can't continue that way. Have you every listened to Rush Limbaugh or only
read the talking points from media matters? And I have seen the reports of our
military returning and many are not the younger generation. FYI my son-in-law
has served in the Army for the past 5 years and also served in Iraq. I am
thankful for all that have served. That is not the point.
So, she didn't take into account the number of people who would actually
vote, and she didn't think about the fact that some voters might choose
neither her nor Matheson. Those reasons don't exactly add
confidence in her abilities.
"No matter what the outlet, I'm going to do everything I can to
preserve this country."With those words, Mia Love expressed
perfectly why the Republicans lost in the general election. Like many
Republcans, she's framing her own values as what's needed to "save
this country." And any other values presumably are "destroying this
country."Yet there were more people with differing values to the
Republicans than who were in sync with them. So here's a tip for maybe
getting elected the next time out: listen to what people different from you
value and respect it, rather than demonize it.And if you can't
accept their values, offer your own platform as just that--your own platform,
rather than the only way America will survive. (cc: Mitt Romney)
Lots of vocal critics of Mia Love seem to come from outside Utah. She
will have my vote and support for whatever office she runs for. She has the
right values, policies, and is bold enough to state them. She can save our
country. Santa Claus promises from liberals can only destroy it.
Woodyff - really? I know it seems like I am an extreme liberal on these posts,
but it is only in relationship to the outlandish comments made. These are right
out of the Rush Limbaugh hates everyone script. Making blanket statements like
these is either done as a bad attempt of a joke, or shows very little exposure
to those you claim have these sentiments.Remember - it is this
"younger generation" that has been off fighting in foreign lands for the
past decade, putting their very lives on the line. Unless you have done as
much, perhaps backing off the casting the first stone might be advised.
Non-beliver thinks that the Democrats offer freedom, in reality the liberals are
attempt to control everything we do from what we eat to what medical treatment
we get. The democrats are interested in control - not freedom. The younger
generation seems to be looking for a 'hand out' and when all those
that work to pay for those who don't contribute can no longer fund the
programs then what will the younger generation do? Oh, so little wisdom!
she just needs more experience in budget, public finance, and governance.
She'll have to drop the tea party-inspired partisan rhetoric. Earn a
Master's Degree in Public Administration or Economics wouldn't hurt
either.#Mia needs to learn, not just talk about platitudes and
generalities. Her ignorance, at times, is overwhelming...
I hope "TRUTH" is using a sarcasm, because the statement is patently
false. There are currently no black Senators from either party. The last elected
one was Barack Obama whose appointed successor was also black. Bob Menendez for
NJ is currently serving in the Senate. As for Governors, Deval Patrick (D)
Massachusetts. Currently there are two Latino republican governors, but there
have been Latino democrat governors as well.
TRUTH SAID: Racism pervades the Democratic party.the truth does seem to
elude your posts.Does that silly statement even need to be addressed? From the Birth Certificate Party?
I'm sure it has nothing to do with:Her wanting to stop all free
and reduced lunches at school...cause you know all those kids get food stamps,
so they are double dipping *huge eye roll*Her wanting to end the
Department of Education, even though her opponent and many others pointed out
that ending the DOE in turns destroys our special education system for disabled
children and makes their IEP's and 504 plans unenforceable Her
suggestion to close the DOE, which in turns closes the Office of Civil rights
because they are a branch of the DOE. She seemed to not care nor understand
what OCR does, and how we already proved with the Civil War, that Civil rights
is a federal problem/federal solution NOT state level. Without OCR, kids could
be freely discriminated in schools, via their health care (it enforces medicaid
compliance issues), and OCR will even step in when a job has discriminated
against someone. They enforce ADA and 504 of the rehabilitation act.I doubt she even knows what that is, she certainly had no understanding
of what they did.
Racism pervades the Democratic party......they will stop at nothing to see that
minorities are not elected! Not one black or hispanic is in the Senate or is
Governor of any state that is not a member of the GOP!
They should both be ashamed of themselves. What a horrible, horrible thing it
is for a politician to be running for office. Politics does not build
character, it reveals it. None of them have any character, yet we keep electing
and re-electing them. Shame on us and them.
Do you have children in public schools? I am funding your choices by paying
taxes that fund public schools. Do you go to church? I am funding your choices
by paying taxes which go to infrastructure and emergency services that support
your church, yet they don't pay taxes. Do you shop at Walmart? I am funding
your choices by paying into welfare systems that support the underpaid employees
Ge Party and Mia. B'bye.
Mia was surprised because she was leading to different degrees in all the polls,
but the independent and Libeterian vote appears to have come out in full force
and some conservatives must have fallen for the same old rhetoric and un-truths
in those biased media ads for a very narrow win. I have personally talked with
Matheson and went down a list of questions to see how down the middle
moderate/conservative he really is and he back talked his way out of every
question without answering truthfully to confirm my suspicions that he is really
very liberal in truth and only a moderate conservative when he needs to get
re-elected. He was very dishonest and I can't believe conservatives still
vote for this guy because they think his is honestly moderately conservative!
He votes party line with Obama 90% of the time and his district in Utah needs to
wake up and decide if they really support Obama and his big government budget
deficit democrat/socialist values or conservative free market values and energy
re: non-believer"How does this in anyway take away your right to
live conservativly?"When I am forced to fund your choices. Live
your life, make your own choices, don't force me to pay for your choices.
It takes away from my choices.
Just a note to those suggesting Mia needs to first run for a state-level office:
Jim Matheson didn't hold political office before running for the House.
NO candidate should be "surprised" that at the outcome of a close
election.Mia, get some experience under your belt.Learn what
YOU truly believe in, not what the Tea Party tells you to say.Run for a
state-level office, rather than trying to jump from "mayor of a
subdivision" to the US House of Representatives.
She became a figure head, a token candidate to prove the diversity of the party,
for the republicans, rather than the people in her district. While Utah votes
heavily Republican, the trend even in Utah is toward unaligned voters. The
republicans seem to continual forget that there are more than just Republicans
and Democrats who will vote party line.If she runs again, and there
is no reason she shouldn't, she will need to run as a representative of her
district, and worry less about what people outside of the state think about her.
Love wasn't the right choice for the job so she lost. If she hopes to
compete in the future for a similar job then she's got to bulk up her
resume and show that she's right for it. Resting on her record as mayor of
a small, in debt town just won't cut it on a national stage.
Surprised?There's always 2014.
Please run again, Mia! My wife and I met you at a cottage meeting and were very
impressed. We think you'd be terrific representative for Utah!Next time, try to do a better job of clearly disassociating yourself from the
Tea Party. I don't think you really believe in their extreme
approaches--especially their unwillingness to compromise--and nor do most
Utahns. And those dumb advertisements run by national groups didn't help
you at all. In fact, I think they may have actually hurt you.See
what you can do about running a more positive campaign. Ben McAdams showed
everybody that it can be done successfully in Utah. Another point to stress is
that Jim Matheson is a good guy and all but he's fast becoming the House
version of Orrin Hatch. Time for him to move on to something else and give
someone else a chance!
@firstamendment"I almost wonder if the trib polls made it so people
didn't go vote, thinking she won."I doubt it. Plus that
would directly conflict with the GOP conspiracy that polls were made to make
Obama look better than he was. "Mia would only help support our
Conservative values"Liberals don't want your
"conservative values". "Matheson only gives more power
to divisive, dishonest, and destructive Liberalism and their President"The Tea Party caucus and republicans set records for filibusters.
That's hardly inclusive or constructive.
To firstamendmentMaybe is was her conservative values that not all
of Utah is interested in? Living your life as a conservative is all fine and
dandy. But placing these beliefs on everyone else is just plain wrong. Liberals
give people a choice on how they want to live. Conservatives take that choice
away. The younger generation seems to want these choices available and
made their voices heard last week. How does this in anyway take away your
right to live conservativly?
Mia needs to work on her memory.
"Surprised"?Wonder why? She is an inexperienced rookie going up
against an eve-handed grizzled veteran. What surprised her?She is not
I hope she runs again. I was surprised also. I almost wonder if the trib polls
made it so people didn't go vote, thinking she won. I'm embarrassed
that so many people in Utah fell for the dishonestly edited liberal attack ads.
Even those who believed them should have the logic to realize that Mia would
only help support our Conservative values, and Matheson only gives more power to
divisive, dishonest, and destructive Liberalism and their President. I hope
and pray Obama will be able to change his ways, but if he doesn't I fear
that those voting for him and his agenda will be responsible for some very sad
Those votes belong to Jim Vein, and nobody else. Jim Vein was running for
office, not stealing votes.
