You mean to tell me that Smart has finally gotten smart enough to see, from all the criticism, that his job is in more jeopardy than Jimmer's?
It looks wrong seeing Jimmer at the top of the PER stats, ahead of Kobe and LeBron, but he has done his job this season and hopefully he can keep producing as he gets more minutes and plays a bigger role on the team. This is, I believe, the make-or-break year for Jimmer and if he can average 13 points and 5 assists per game in 20 minutes than I think he'll make it. But he needs to get the minutes first... hopefully this last week will convince the Kings that he deserves more floor time.
Hang in there.
Shooters as good as Jimmer always have a place in the NBA. He needs to get enough minutes so that he can get attention from the right team and get out of Sacramento.
Cant the Jazz trade the warriors draft pick and BELL for Jimmer?
Where are all the Jimmer haters on this article? All this kid needs is a chance and he will shine. Yes. He's the gooderest and bestest ETB.
Too bad he can't play defense, he'd be a viable NBA threat then.
This coach will never give Jimmer a chance. There are various reasons that should be obviou but not the least of these is that he is a failing coach of a terrible team.
Smart is the worst coach in one of the worst franchises in pro sports! The Kings shouldn't even be called a team because it's every man for himself! Best move for Jimmer would be to get out ASAP.
Jimmer wasn't POY for nothing, he'll find a way to succeed in the NBA...despite his coach.
I always felt that the criticism of Jimmer were way over the top. He's a sharp shooter and shooting translates, of course it is an adjustment dealing, with taller, faster, better defenders, but Jimmer is a workhorse and I think he can be a viable sharp shooter in the NBA. Not elite, but a rotation shooter who can put points on the board in a hurry.
Johnny Triumph -
Give me your top 5 list of NBA players that can play defense. You get my drift??
Hint: Smart feeling the heat where his exit door is approaching closer and he decided to give more chances for Jimmer. Remember last year Westphaul (sp?) got fired early and now Smart feeling it. Hang in there Jimmer.
I would LOVE to see Jimmer get far more minutes. But you cannot believe anything Keith Smart says. He will not play Jimmer more except when it is so obious that other players are terrible that night. He has not liked Jimmer since the day he took over. All you need to do is wathc each game how he uses (or does not use) Jimmer. It's an insult to Jimmer. I'm sure everyone, including Jimmer would like to see a trade, but the Kings are so inept, they won't even trade him. Hang tough Jimmer, your day will come.
Jimmer's stats so far - 48 minutes played, 43 points, 64% FG shooting, 50% 3 point shooting, 4 assists, 3 TO's, 3 rebounds and one steal.
Jimmer's PER would of course be a lot lower if he played the amount of minutes he should be playing, so I agree it is strange to see his PER be above the likes of Kobe and Lebron. However, I think Jimmer would still have the highest PER on the Kings if we played as many minutes as some of the other players on the Kings. He has the skills to be a quality NBA player for years to come. I would rather him get traded to any other team (even the Lakers) then continue to be on this horridly managed and coached team, though.
Smart likes to use the excuse that Jimmer can't defend the elite guards of the NBA, so he has to keep him on the bench. There are far worse defenders playing a lot more minutes in this league. Jimmer's lack of defense is overstated, having developed that part of his game considerably since leaving college.
I, too, feel bad for Jimmer. He ended up on the worst possible team in the NBA for his skill set. I'm all for the "Free Jimmer" movement.
I wonder why no one says this is racism??? What if he, a former college player of the year, were black and everyone else were white? If he were not getting any playing time, would any fingers be pointing?
Dear Johnny Triumph. Study the NBA a little bit more and you will see there are a lot of players who are not great on defense, yet they play regularly.
Now, how is the UTE's basketball defense coming along?
I would echo those who have said that the Kings are the worst team in the league. They play a playground style game, it's each man for himself. Hopefully, the "Free Jimmer" movement gives the Kings an idea and they move him to a team that would appreciate his skills. He would thrive with a team like the Spurs.
Coach Smart is not a smart man.
