For U trolls who like to poke at BYU's November schedule, this will be a great game. SJSU is on par with USU and LaTech in the WAC. The Spartans will test the Cougs secondary. I'm happy Johnson will be back. I wish Sampson hadn't messed up, we could really use him too. I expect to see a lot of Nickel on Saturday. We should be able to limit the run, but if we can't stop the passing game - watch out, this will be a good one.
As for the bowl game, I'm sure the Poinsetta will pick San Diego State, even if Fresno ends up with a better record. The Aztecs have a bigger following (especially in SD), there is more history between the two teams, the last game was a nail biter, and there is history between Mendenhall and Long. All the makings for a great game!
San Jose State is a good, but not a great team. The Spartans barely lost at Stanford, got pounded at home by Utah State, and beat a pretty good San Diego State team on the road. The Spartans rely almost exclusively on the pass, so BYU's defense will have to put pressure on the QB, or the Cougars will find themselves in a track meet that BYU would have trouble winning. If BYU can control San Jose State's passing game, the Cougars should win handily.
So now SJSU is "explosive"? Good stuff.
Win or lose, the Cougars are going bowling this year, unlike the Utes at this point who must beat Arizona and them the TOT (team over there), to whom they lost last year in SLC.

"So now SJSU is "explosive"? Good stuff."
San Jose State is 9th in passing (325 ypg) and 31st in scoring (35 ppg).
Compared to
Utah's pedestrian 104th in passing (188 ypg) and 85th in scoring (25 ppg),
that's mind-bogglingly "explosive".
Should be a good game, but really does it matter much anymore? Win or lose BYU will get a bowl game in San Diego against a familiar opponent.
While mocking our game with an "explosive" WAC opponent, the trolls are not-so-secretely grateful they don't have to play SJSU. Otherwise, they would be 0-2 against WAC opponents this year.
I think you beat SJSU the same way you beat Georgia Tech: keep their offense off the field. BYU should focus on playing ball control, run-oriented offense. If they can put together a bunch of clock-eating scoring drives, they'll win easily.
But they have to score, not just eat clock, of course.

_____________
BYU is 6-9 all time against San Jose St. They own you!
It will be a good game I think with BYU losing on the road.
USU sacked the Spartans all day, with BYU's great defense, I just have a tough time seeing San Jose State move the ball down the field on them consistently unless they run some misdirection and catch BYU over-pursuing. SJSU does have a good defense, so I think they will be able to defend BYU. I do believe it will be competitive, but I think BYU wins by 14. With LA Tech's last two games showing a pretty bad defense against mediocre teams, I think USU and SJSU can both beat the Bulldogs.
Utah County Ute,
YES EXPLOSIVE. I know you would not recognize what explosivw is since you have not seen it this year. All you have seen is imploding from the Utes.
@Wildcat,
I agree that BYU will get a lot of sacks, but Fales is a great QB. Watched him play Utah State, and BYU has the same weakness as Utah State, the deep pass. (See Oregon St. game). That is what SJSU does best which is why, even though USU got 13 sacks, SJSU still scored several times. BYU's offense will have to show up for this game. SJSU does have a high scoring offense, and they will score lots of points.
WACPaddingOurSchedule knows a lot about being owned. Utes are 0 - 8 against Washington Huskies.
BYU is 4 - 4 against the UW.
It is ok Ute fans there is always basketball to fall back on. Oh, wait... maybe not.....
Unfortunately, the Y just does not do very well against teams with winning records, and generally doesn't do very well in the last few weeks of the season. Combine those two facts, and it doesn't look good for the cougars. SJSU will also be emotionally up for this game, and the Y will not. This one goes to SJSU. Look--don't be a hater, I'm just trying to keep it real. As a disinterested third party, with no dog in the hunt, it's just easier for me to look at the game rationally vs a cougar fan that is desperately looking for a needing a win to salvage the season.
Ucu and paddy WAC:
According to a few prognostications SJSU is waiting for you in the New Mexico Bowl, assuming U become bowl eligible. It will be intetesting to see what U say then. BTW Paddy WAC: the fact U have a losing record all time versus Nevada betrays the hypocrisy of your screen name and posts.
With BYU fans bragging about future scheduling, why is BYU avoiding Colorado?
Its because the Cougs are 3-8-1 all time against the Buffs.
The spartans are a very good team this year. This will be a difficult game for the Cougars, but one they still can win if they play well.
Sissy B,
A disinterested third party with no dog in the hunt?? There is no question you are a Ute fan. Drop the deceit. Your only purpose in these blogs is to discredit BYU. BYU is not looking to save the season, they have a winning record. Utah's is over. The Y is going bowling and Utah is not. Mark it down.
So, SameJersey, you're telling me Riley won't be the QB? The only people who haven't played well consistently are the field goal kicker du jour, and Riley against BSU, Notre Dame, Utah and Oregon State and others... Hope he does well against the Spartans.

"BYU is 6-9 all time against San Jose St. They own you!"
LOL!
BYU has won 6 of the last 7 versus the Spartans (including the last 5) and BYU hasn't lost to San Jose State since the 60's.
If you want to talk about really being OWNED by someone, consider:
Utah: 0-8 versus Washington and 1-6 versus the YMCA
