I really appreciate your take on Reality Town, and especially your daughters! It truly is a wonderful "Reality Check" to most, if not all of the students. From their occupation based on their academics to the real life choices to the checkbook register, its black and white. I have had some less than engaged students tell me they make hardly nothing at all, so they are going to bum it in the park (a section in the middle of the gym with trees and chairs). I have also had other students come back to groceries, housing or automobiles to either upgrade, or downgrade based on their balance towards the end of the exercise. As a PTSA president and lifelong member and parent, I encourage parents of 9th graders to volunteer for Reality Town, and have a good open conversation with your student about life's reality.
It truly is a great project. Great job everyone!
Just one more great thing in a long list of excellent opportunities our kids have at our local schools!
