It's called parental instincts and rights. Who better to know about their childs well being than a parent? Apparently she was and is no threat to her son and yet the DN is calling her an irresponsible parent because she wants her son back from the clutches of the DCWS and courts abusive kidnapping and detention of her child.
These accusation are too often prejudiced and biased by self interest of greed by medical and DCWS personnel profiting by the use of kidnapping and terrorizing a child for profit.
Her acts will be for her and her family's joint companionship right to have the pursuit of happiness according to the constitution. Kidnapping a child is more devastating to childs live than claiming a caring parent has no rights. A child has the right to the comforts of his parents and family whether some like it of not regardless of their living conditions or lifestyle.

"It's called parental instincts and rights."
The story says "Heather Lee Martin has a history of illegal substance use that impacts her ability to safely care for her son .." Mothers don't lose custody of their children in Utah without good reason.
My neighbor adopted just such a child after she was released from the University of Utah Burn Unit. (She is learning to deal with the scars she will carry throughout her life.) And yes, bio-mom is now serving time in the Utah State Prison.
