I am pleased to have been wrong about both BYU and Utah. Good win. Still won't get you to a bowl game.

It is a good win, all wins are good wins.

Nice and a much needed win for the Utes. The PAC 12 is so tough to figure out this year. If Utah plays like they did last night, they can run the table and finish 7-5; don't kid your self.

Hey BYU fans! That's how you do a black out game! BYU should just stick with their white game game. It makes more sense for them.

"If Utah plays like they did last night, they can run the table and finish 7-5..."

Don't misunderstand, it was a nice win for the Utes,

but don't count on the Utes getting a couple of 100-yard kickoff returns and a fumble recovery for a touchdown every game.

Cal had 100 yards more total offense than the Utes and without those 21 easy points that Utah's offense had absolutely nothing to do with producing, the Utes barely beat the Golden Bears 28-27.

In other words,

don't kid yourself!

7-5 is a reach; the Utes will have to get lucky, AGAIN, just to break even and qualify for a bowl.

Hey lone star... I love the what if stuff and how it's negative. How about we what if those two returns don't happen. Utah gets the ball on th 25 yard line each time. And what if they drive and score a td each time. Guess what that's still 14 pts and another 150 yards. Same score and Utah out gains. To optimistic for you. Ok how about 2 field goals and only 100 yards. Utah wins by a td and has about the same amt of yards. Ok still to optimistic for you. How about if utah goes 3 and out and punts. Do you think the rest of the game is played as conservatively or that the the d still takes it easy that last quarter. See if you chg one play everything chgs after that play. All we know for sure is the score board doesn't lie. Go Ute!!!!

to say, "if they didn't have those 21 points then they would have only won by 1 point!" is a joke. The fact is, they scored those points, fare and square, Reggie Dunn is a player on the Utes football team, he made a good play and so did his blockers. Just because it doesn't count toward their offensive yardage, it doesn't mean that they were lucky touchdowns. Same with the fumble return.

Yes we had less offensive yardage, aside from the fact that much of those Cal yards were gained in the 4th quarter, had Reggie not run those two touchdowns back, and had that fumble recovery not gone for a touchdown, you can't tell me with a straight face the Utah would not have ended up with at least 100 yards of additional offense.

Try to think about both sides of the argument before you post a ridiculous comment like that.

and by the way, I agree 7-5 is indeed a stretch.

Glad to see that we (I am a U of U alumnus) got a win in the PAC, but we are still cellar dwellers. That could be different if we had not joined the PAC. As long as we are in the PAC, all I see is cellar dwelling. Presently, Cal 2 and 5; Utah and Colorado 1 and 4; and helpless power house Wash. State 0 and 5. I call that dwelling in the cellar, and I am afraid we are simply going to have to get used to it.

Burying your heads in the sand and pretending that Utah demonstrated some sort of vast improvement in offense in beating Cal won't help U beat Washington State, Washington, Arizona and Colorado. Utah is 99th in passing offense, 109th in rushing offense, and 91st in scoring, and Utah's offense didn't do anything against Cal that suggests they're getting markedly better.

Season versus Cal Comparisons
Passing 193 vs 156 (-37)
Rushing 114 vs 188 (+74)
Total 307 vs 344 (+37)
Scoring 24 vs 28 (+4) (scored by the offense)

Feel free to present the "other side of the argument", but, frankly, where's your evidence?

You're only deluding yourselves if you believe that the Utes are going to continue producing 21 points a game from turnovers and special teams the rest of the season.

Salt Lake City, UT

Too much blood loss for the Crimson Bleeder to make rational judgments. Sad how you beat a poor team and use it as a statement for another team. As a U grad, just enjoy the win and don't tarnish it with pointless remarks.

Provo, UT

How about reading what I post before jumping down my throat huh? I said that I agreed with Utah going 7-5 this year being a stretch. In those comparisons you conveniently left out the fact that Utah forced 3 turnovers and actually had some positive special teams plays. Are they going to go 7-5? Maybe, but I don't think so. Did they do better this week than in all previous weeks this season? Yes they did. Will they continue to make improvements throughout this year? I believe they will.

i'm not sure what evidence you are talking about, i never made any statements other than the facts that utah scored 49 points and not the 28 you seem to think we scored, and I called you out for somehow thinking those points didn't count.

Hypothetical thinking might make one feel better, but it's irrelevant.

St George, UT

Good win against a mediocre opponent. Plenty of work left to go bowling. Colorado is a win, and maybe Washington State, but I'm not sure where the 6th win comes from. Washington and Arizona are not likely. That leaves the Utes on the outside looking in, Maybe looking at a new offensive coordinator.

This is the first time all season that the Utes have scored over 30 points against a D1-A defense.

If you're counting on turnovers to save your mediocre offense every game, get used to disappointment.

Provo, UT

Utes should beat WAZZU and CU but can they get UW or AZ to get that sixth win? I'm not sure...

A lot of negativity from several BYU fans (what else would you expect?) and a supposed Ute alumni. However, for relying on a true freshman quarterback who entered the season as the #3 QB, Utah has played very competitively. The increase in competition in the PAC 12 from the Mountain West is huge. Every PAC 12 team has the capability of competing with, and defeating, any other team in the conference on any given day. Look at Arizona and Washington yesterday. It's not like playing in the Mountain West or WAC, where there were always 5 or 6 automatic wins every year.

Speaking of playing the WAC and automatic wins, enjoy your last three thrilling games against three of the worst teams in D1 football. Your 8-4 record will be inflated, as usual, and we'll all have to hear about how your team is a top 25 team with such an impressive record. If your team were playing in the PAC 12, they would be 4-8 at best.

Provo, UT

when did I say I was counting on turnovers to win games? Even if I was isn't that an integral part of winning games for every team??? I don't know which utah fan was making remarks about other teams, but I for one did, and will do no such thing.

Silly arguments above every game has plays that affect the outcome both made and blown. It's pointless to argue what would have happened if something was different when we all know what plays were made. If it was a close game, you wouldn't have seen Star sitting out the 4th quarter either.

I'm happy the Utes were finally able to put together a complete game. They finished drives and put the ball in the endzone. They didn't make any huge mistakes and the defense created some turnovers. Special teams was amazing - Reggie Dunn was unbelievable.

I think it's a stretch to think they will win out but at least they can still play to make a bowl game. They have been improving over the last few weeks especially Travis Wilson - I'm impressed with his leadership taking full responsibility for turnovers and then giving himself up to make an amazing block, I think the team seems to be rallying behind him.

I hope they can keep up the momentum and just take one game at a time. There are no give me games in this conference.

Go Utes!

Sorry to burst you crimson bubbles gored and QP, but if BYU was in the PAC 12, they would have won the PAC South last season with wins over Colorado, California and Arizona State; unlike Kyle, Bronco doesn't lose to bad teams like 10-loss Colorado, 10-loss UNLV, New Mexico, Wyoming, and Colorado St.

Cottonwood Heights, UT

@PAC Man ...

You said, "..if BYU was in the PAC 12, they would have won the PAC South last season..."

And I can't help but say:
Hahahahahaha, ho, ho, ho, oh man, wait ... wait ... hahahaha, oh man ... hahahahahahahahaha! To funny, that's good stuff ... oh man. Wow, thank you, I really needed that.

Is is that time of year already? BYU starts beating up on the back end of its schedule and all of a sudden they would be contenders in the PAC-12.

Maybe the Cougs should try being the best team in the state before claiming to be one of the best in the West.
