I think the Cougars are going to sneak up on ND and beat them in front of their own fans!
NO They're NOT. Notre Dame is a much better team.
Don't use the word IF, a few plays are a part of the whole game. BYU is bad, Utah is bad, we all have to accept our teams move on and hope they can get better.
Wow Broom Hockey! Really, only a few plays away from an undefeated season. How about the if the 15 to 20 other passes that should have been picked off from Riley and Taysom that were not or the FG missed by BSU and Utah. Wake-up and take the blue glasses off. This team is average at best. Our defense is pretty strong, but the offense stinks. The OC is weak, the offensive line is bad, we have an average at best D-1 quarterback. The good is that Williams is developing as a good RB and we have good to great receivers. The DB's need to toughen up and Sorensen is always trying to make the great play and is out of position. When he is in position he likes to take cheap shots and gets penalties for late hits or leading with his helmet. This team is lucky to have a winning record at this point. We need to get much better. ND should win by 21 unless BYU improves dramatically by Saturday. Not close to being undefeated.
I had an interesting conversation last night with my in-laws (die hard BYU fans). My grandfather in-law (in his late 60's) mentioned how disgusted he is with the BYU football program and how they are years away from being a national title contender. My father in law (late 40's) argued that they are just a QB away from 10 win seasons against the tougher competiton they now face. My 3 brother in laws (age 16-22) all seemed fairly satisfied with how things are going this season and one even stated he likes Nelson's style of play.
From my standpoint this showed that the more distant each generation is getting from 1984 the lower the expectations are for the entire football program. Is this a pretty common pattern anyone else has noticed? I am not trying to bash BYU, I am just curious.
BTW the utah fans are the exact opposite, the younger generations think Utah is terrible this year, and are completely unsatisfied, while the older generations are generally happy with getting bowl eligible in the PAC 12.
Despite the whiny naysayers, BYU has a chance, which is encouraging, considering the Cougars are playing the #5-ranked team in one of the most historic venues in all of college sports.
Go Cougs!

I liked the black uniforms, very sharp looking, and wouldn't mind seeing BYU wear them again, occassionally, and, I plan on getting a black jersey to wear to the next black out, which was fun.
In the 3 games that BYU has lost, they were and are the btter team. BYU did not execute on just a few plays and pratically gift-wrapped the BSU and Utah wins. If they wouldn't have had those turnovers, they would have won those games. It didn't help that the refs gave a good Beavers team a phantom PI call, too.
If BYU wins this game, which I think they will, another top 25 finish will be possible. After beating a top 10 team, BYU can run the table and then win their bowl and voila! Right back in the top 25 like always.
I have to say that I liked the Black Uniforms as well. Not weekly, but once or twice a year would be great. BYU has had some of the best recruiting classes they have ever had. We should expect to see better players and increased depth. Riley is a warrior, but just an average or lower D-1 QB. I am surprised that our Offensive Line is struggling and not better. Our Defense is strong and I hope we can continue to have a good to great Defense in the future. We have talented receivers, but we can't get them the ball to make plays. I really like Williams as a RB, but we need depth with Alisa out for most of the year. Because of the Heaps problems, BYU has been caught without a strong QB. I liked what Taysom was doing, but Doman still needs to show that he can develop QB's and make them better. Heaps regressed from his Freshman year to Sophmore year. This could be partly his work ethic. Riley has not gotten better from last year and as a Senior, should be better at reading defenses and making smart plays.
I know Boise State, Utah, and Oregon St. had some errors and execution problems as well. That is why the game is played. Turnovers and errors is the difference in most if not all games. The phantom PI didn't cost them the game, but poor defense against the pass as well as throwing costly interceptions did. How many passes did Riley throw that should have been picked that were not? The same in the Boise State and Utah games. Bronco and fans want to whine about the back breaks or that the ball didn't bounce our way, but we have had at least 5 to 6 potential interceptions that were dropped by the defense of the schools we lost too. We have had our breaks, but we are not good enough to take advantage. We are constantly losing the field position game. Our Offense is not good enough to drive 70 to 85 yards against good teams consistently. We were a little lucky in the USU game and could have lost that game. BYU is not better than Oregon St. or Boise St. and Utah is struggling like BYU.
Despite last week's meltdown against OSU, I think BYU has the horses on defense to keep it close. If Bronco and Doman are smart they will give Lark the start.... what do they have to lose at this point in the season?
Broom Hockey, "only a few plays away from an undefeated season". Are you kidding? If, but, if, but, if, but.....
Jark, I love the BYU fan calling Utah the PAC12 doormat, which may be true, but consider the source. What would that make BYU then.... something below the doormat I guess. Your not in a position of strength to be calling out the team that owns you.

Head-to-head matchups between BYU and Utah are only a piece of the puzzle in determining how BYU would be doing as a member of the PAC 12.
Bronco almost never loses to bad teams - he was undefeated against New Mexico, Wyoming, Colorado State, and UNLV.
Kyle is constantly losing to bad teams - he lost to New Mexico, Wyoming, Colorado State, 10-loss UNLV and 10-loss Colorado.
Bronco is 9-7 versus PAC teams.
Kyle is 8-11 versus PAC teams.
It's very possible, if not probable, that if BYU had played Utah's schedule last season, that BYU, despite their loss to the Utes, would have won the PAC south; don't forget BYU is 4-4 versus Washington; Utah is 0-7 versus Washington. And, BYU wouldn't have lost to Colorado.
We'll see if Utah does any better against Oregon State than BYU did (down by only 4 with less than 6 minutes left in the game). We've already seen that BYU was able to handle a Utah State team that the Utes couldn't.

Who cares! BYU is not in the PAC 12.
Why is BYU afraid to schedule Colorado?
The Buffs own the 3-8-1 all time!
BYU is 6-9 all time against San Jose St!
OUCHAMUNDO!!!
Riddles,
To be fair, when you quote BYU's record against PAC teams BYU wasn't playing those games back-to-back-to-back-to-back. There's a lot of speculation and conjecture in your post.....And I'd hardly call the USU win something to write home about. Since when is beating USU on our field something to boast about? I'm actually a bit embarrassed about it, even though we won because of how sloppy we played.
That being said, I think we are only a handful of plays away from being undefeated. If we would have executed on the 2-point conversion against B-State, made the FG against our lil' bros, and not had bad luck and the refs against us in the OSU game, we'd be in the top 15 in the BCS standings and well on our way to a BCS game. Even after all that, I think a win this week and we're back on our way to another top 25 finish.
Broom Hockey Fan:
Stick to analyzing broom hockey.
This BYU team has some great athletes but unless something is done to give them a chance to win against good teams, the recruiting well will run dry. Then the Y will field entire teams of under sized, less talented, "gritty" players who really try hard but can't compete in major college football (ala Riley.)
We all have to hope Tom Holmoe will have the courage to step in and make major changes to the program before things get any worse. I believe he will. The move to independence was not made with mediocrity in mind. Next year's schedule is arguably the toughest yet. If changes aren't made it could be down right embarrassing.

Broom Hockey Chump I am so tired of fellow BYU fans blaming the refs. I'm surprised "blame the refs" is not on a t-shirt already. Someone would make a lot of money selling that to BYU fans.
Why all the praise for the black uniforms? They remind me of a tacky funeral.

Utes 24-31 against Colorado
Utes 0-7 against Washington
1-6 against YMCA
Utes are ninth overall in head to head competition against PAC opponents. Really pretty pathetic when you look at the numbers.
In light of the Utes history against PAC opponents... losing to Colorado last year made perfect sense.
It's pretty exciting to see these trends continue at 0-3.
This definately a trap game for ND. If any of you out there have actually watched any ND games, you'll see their offense isn't very good. So to predict BYU gets blown out by 35 points just shows how uninformed you really are. I like the Cougs to bounce back. BYU 21- ND 17.

Yet we have a losing record against the PAC 12 this season. Does that make sense?
Tell Holmoe to schedule other teams in the future for BYU. Unless you want the exciting trend of losing to PAC 12 teams to continue.
Hey Y fans - You got beat by 18 at home to a team with their back up QB and you think you're going to beat ND on the road? Good luck, You'll need it.
