Governor Calvin Rampton may have had an advantage as an incumbent several times but the media and process haschanged a little since then.
However, as two years ago when the Governor got his $85,000 from the ICORE contractors for his campaign, it could be the realtor/developer, Governor Herbert has used the phrase location, location, location but this time changed it to timing, timing, timing.
It is amazing that it is a very convenient time to release these various types of ads. It gives him face time, face time and face time. When I have seen them, I thought that it was a campaign ad, that he was just showing that he was pushing this type of process to get elected.
He has definitely left lots of money in Utah county for those developers to get more development. The Governor has put billions of dollars into his county and he is good at developing.
Governor Romney hopefully won't have this legacy with his kind of experience. I believe he knows that he is in a very large fishbowl but in Utah people just don't get involved in this type of politics. However, the Alcohol Board got caught
Equal announcements can be made with the opposition to give them equal time as well as an equal message.
Having nearly free placements that started right before the election can be seen as trying to get more face time. Had the ads run after the election, no one would say anything but the fact that they started less than 50 days prior to the election, that is fishy.
If this all just some kind of "innocent" situation, why are we suddenly seeing far more "public service" announcements from our governor now than we did before the campaign?
Governor Herbert almost gets a free pass from everyone and he will most likely be elected but is sort of becoming like the Chicago group. He isn't a community organizer, per se, but he is a developer and that probably hasn't dropped too far out of sight in the deals. Utah county has made significant enhancements with him as Goveror and not just a county commissioner.
Numbers still keep on ringing, $13M, $85,000 and I am sure other amounts.
It may be legal on the PSAs but it is sure odd they just started and even though it isn't Facebook it is Facetime with name association.

Chicago politics makes Utah politicians look like angels who could walk on water.
