So, considering how close each of the in-state games were this year, how do you propose determining which team is the best in the state?
Personally, I propose giving it to the only team that didn't feel like it had to rush the field after its victory :) Either that, or give it to the generic "home team."
Mendenhall and Anderson, that was a coaching clinic. Big time kudos to Mendenhall's coaching at the end of the 1st half, textbook! It turned out to be the difference in the game. So glad he didn't decide to run out the clock. Great Job Bronco! Now after tonight we also know why you tried for two in Boise.
@Hawkeye
It would appear they are all about even. All close games, home team won all 3 of them. Not a lot of difference between them except that BYU's and USU's defense's are definately better than utah's. I'd rank them like this based on that.
1A BYU
1B USU
1C utah
USU's defense was tough. BYU's was just a little tougher. Look forward to the next game in Logan.
Aggie 84, Go Big Blue,
Where are you guys? I'm so happy you are sad tonight. Thinking about your sad faces puts a smile on my face.
Thanks
Enjoy Conference tomorrow. I know I will.
USU fans got under my skin this week. Thanks for winning BYU. That was amazing defense. The Aggies offense was gritty and played well. Good luck to both teams.
I hope Doman will let Hill run more of that 22 second offense. Otherwise it will be a long few weeks ahead.
Defense does it again, their streak at sub-300 yard games intact. Pretty sad it was not put away earlier when we take the ball away in the red zone and come away with nothing.
I read about Anae's career being over, but wasn't he in and called for a penalty?
Worried about the hits Taysom subjects himself too standing up and trying for extra yardage. Lots of heart, but still have some big hitting teams to play.
Go Cougs!
Lots of disappointed Ute fans tonight.
Ain't it great!
LOL
Utah State just gets better and better. I look forward to watching this rivalry continue for many years to come. Good luck to Coach Andersen and his Aggies the rest of the season.
This Utah fan says congrats to BYU on a good win. Utah State has a good team too. Hopefully, we will all go bowling. Who's the state champ? Three way tie, I can live with that!
Again, good win Cougs and what a defense.
Wow. Sounded like a snooze fest.
9 total points.....
Heard coach Anderson talk about some unruly fan in his comments. I hope they find out who that knucklehead is. Coach Anderson is a class act and has brought Utah State out of the abyss. Class act and a class program. No losers tonight except that fan of ours.
Hawkeye,
To answer your question, the tie-breaker should go to BYU in my opinion. It's true that every team can make a claim, but BYU held their opponent's offense scoreless and won convincingly in regulation. Utah won by a missed field goal and USU beat Utah in overtime, on a questionable pass interference call. BYU's win was the most convincing.
@Hawkeye79
One thing is for sure. USU isn't the best team in the state. Nice job shutting the aggies up BYU. Any team that shuts the aggies up is ok with me.
Ugly win but I will take it! Defense, studs as usual, love watching those guys play. Offense, lots of work to do, o-line is killing the offense with missed assignments, penalties, etc.
I know Bronco never reads these comments, but I want to apologize for criticizing your 2 point conversion call against Boise, now I understand completely why you didn't kick the extra point. The kicking game is a complete disaster, good grief! Special teams coaches need to get this cleaned up fast.
Interesting that "Riverton Cougar" claims BYU as winner of the tie-breaker based on his reasoning that Utah beat BYU by a missed field goal after which he states that "BYU's win was the most convincing" even though BYU's win was determined by a missed field goal. I suggest you have your short-term memory tested and then re-take your BYU logics class.
I am impressed with USU for sure. I missed Gary Anderson's comments after the game. I wish a BYU fan wouldn't have heckled GA. That's ridiculous and very low class. Arguing with Sports Nutz is way more acceptable...
Really tough game. As I expected it would be D who kept BYU in the game. This is a seriously great defense. It will keep BYU in games all year. USU's defense was also excellent, but I think the raw QB was also a factor in BYU's inability to score touchdowns. However -- what is going on with the kicking game? Unbelievable.
Here's what I liked to see - Anderson and Mendenhall greeting and talking at midfield. Coach Anderson is a class act and I hope he stays at USU for a while. I like underdogs, and USU has had some close losses. Pretty soon they'll be close wins.
GG to the Cougars. Aggie fan here who really was looking to take the Old Wheel tonight, but that BYU defense is something else...
I think it is safe to say we have three great football teams in this state. Here is to cheering for all three of them the rest of the season and hope they pound the tar our of their remaining competitions.
I know people and fans can also say harsh things. Here is to the ressurection of the tri-rivalry!! Let's just keep it classy now.
Again, GG Cougars!
