Given the facts that Riley's injury is a back injury, and given his performance against USU last year, I predict that Riley might play a little, but Hill will be in most of the game. Hill better prepare himself hard. I want to see some amazing BYU offense.
I want Riley to come out and play well, but I fear that with his back injury and it being Ut State that he will try to "over perform" would make a lot of unwise things. Plus, knowing that the opposing QB has a back injury, what defense wouldn't take some back shots in hope of aggravating the injury? I think that BYU is better with Taysom for now. Maybe they should start Lark actually. That would throw USU for a loop. Prep for a runner and get a passer. Then switch to a runner.
The main reason Nelson is still considered the starter when healthy is because of experience and knowing more plays. Hill, as talented as he is, could easily have difficulty against better defenses than he's faced so far. He needs time to learn a broader spectrum of the offense to be considered the starter over Nelson.
Talent-wise, there's no contest between the two. It's how UN-vanilla your offense can be that makes the difference against better competition.
This isn't rocket science.
Cracks me up all the anti-Riley, pro-Hill comments I've seen in so many posts recently.
I wish I knew right now who was starting so I can make my final Grid Picks choice. If Riley starts I think USU will eat him up. A Lark or Hill start equals a win for BYU.
