Bell Labs, filled with the premier scientists in the country, tried this in the 1970s and it nearly tore the place apart. Everyone thinks they are like the children of Lake Woebegone - above average.
That's a pretty bold move! I don't envision it working all the time, but in certain companies maybe it would be better to just get it all out and in the open...
Thans Sean for the great article! We are thrilled that this story is getting out and at least providing some different thinking. We aren't the only ones, Quora for one does this too. Trick we have found so far is banding salaries. It was harder when everyone was a t slightly different amounts when everyone falls into buckets seems better. Who really knows how this will work but it has I think reduced the amount of thinking going on about it with the team. Thanks again!
