This is a perfect example of a time when someone who needs to be rescued should be billed for the cost of the rescue.
This was the result of deliberately dangerous behavior. It was not a simple accident.
Life is dangerous. In the pursuit of "life, liberty, and happiness", accidents happen. Is someone trying to suggest that this base-jumper DELIBERATELY got himself in this precarious, life-threatening position? a suicide attempt? or, maybe, "...just wanted to see how efficient the rescue team could be..."??
I for one and just glad to see he is safe and the rescue team did what they are trained and paid to do.
glad he is safe but I agree he should be billed for the rescue costs. Base jumping is crossing the line into the extreme ... and stupid.
