By far the best BYU defense I've seen since I started watching the Cougs in the late 70's. We've had some studs on defense over the year (Morrell, Buck, Poppinga, etc.) But I've never seen us field 11 solid players. DB's are not up to LSU standards, but even they are solid. Our front seven are one of the Top 10 in the nation in my opinion.

I think OSU, ND and GT may be better teams than us overall, but I expect the Cougs to be in those games because of our defense. Our only reason for losing against the Utes and Broncos was our QB play. I hope Nelson plays to his potential or Bronco makes the switch. Even if Nelson starts, I expect Hill to get a lot more "wildcat" snaps than he got in backup duty during the first four games. With Alisa out, we should be Hill in at RB occassionally for some trickery.

Stephenson is amazing. I can't wait to see him in the NFL.

This is the best defense I can recall in my lifetime as a BYU fan. Most Mendenhall defenses are good but, it seems they've figured out that they have to go for some speed and we shouldn't expect to see TCU and Florida St. run around BYU in the future.

ND is the only team I would say for certain is better and even there BYU's defense is good enough I could see a close loss. But, if Nelson plays in the next four there is reason to be worried about going 0-4.
