One does have to wonder: what would have happened had Riley been benched in favor of a healthy quarterback two weeks ago?
Props to Jamaal Williams. When the man in front of you goes down with an injury, it's time to step up and fill the shoes. He did that and then some. Great performance. And the same for Taysom Hill as well.
Still, it is Hawaii. They aren't a good team. Utah State will be a much tougher opponent.
Not exactly the score I marked down from Crissy B.
Way to go Cougars!
Well it was Hawaii but it was nice for Taysom and company to get some bugs out. That 68 yard TD showed his running ability.
USU will be a tough game.
Can't read much into the win because Hawaii is bad. Poor Norm Chow. It was nice to see the offense finally do something even though it was a bad defense. Cougars defense looks really good. They are going to keep us in every game this year. Hope Doman can get out of the offenses way and let them do their thing.
Congrats to Taysom, Jamaal, and the rest of the BYU team on a great overall performance.
Just what the doctor ordered getting Hill some experience and re-establishing BYU's running game.
BYU's defense was awesome.
Well it was an interesting game, two helmet to helmet hits by BYU sends two Hawaii athletes to the hospital. Let's hope they are ok.
Good to see that the Y will put up a game for next week. I'll guarantee that 1the Y's offense will face a much stiffer defense and the Y will have to take care of a more challenging offense than tonight. With that said, there will be a game to watch next week and I predict that the Aggies will be up by 14 at half 1 at the end of the game cause the kittens will try for 2 again and again fail.
GO THE ORIGINAL TRUE BLUE OF UTAH
Great win. I think Bronco has a closer relationship with Kyle than he has with Norm. the only thing faster than that handshake at the end of the game was Hill's run into the end zone. How refreshing it is to have someone who can run and throw the ball.
Nice win. I heard Bronco being interviewed at the half and he was asked if there was now a QB controversy. He said no and that Taysom Hill is STILL Riley Nelson's 'understudy.' Bronco is a strange man.
Next week should be a good game. Go Aggies!
Aggie84,
Are you related to Cristy B? At least you're not marking your prediction.

Mark my words.
I wonder if BYU fans will now give Bronco a little more slack for the decision to go for 2 in Boise last week. Tonight's blocked PAT and other one simply missed give one pause. Just curious. There seems to be a lot more kicking problems in CFB the last couple of years.
Well keep in mind who you played fans. Feel bad for Norm Chow.

Congratulations to BYU. It's a great win. I'm so glad that the QB draw worked so well tonight. It's your bread and butter play and it worked well against Hawaii. Against good teams, you must hope that it works so well. I feel badly for Alisa. He would have enjoyed a great night. We will miss him a lot. The offensive line needed to stay in the entire game, just to get the reps they need. Oh well. Let's keep surprising me Cougars. I'd love to see a great game next week.
Aggie84, those were not two helmet-to-helmet hits "by BYU." In both cases, both players squared up and hit each other face-to-face. Both were equally involved. Those announcers were wrong all night: "His arm was coming up..." Nonsense! No such rule, because a quarterback's arm comes up as he draws it BACK to throw. "Defenseless player..." Double nonsense! That lineman squared up and thrust his helmet toward Anae, and in what world was he "defenseless"?
This game showed that at BYU the best player doesn't get the playing time. Bronco has a weird version of the good ole boys club going on down there. Williams has been more explosive than Alisa all year and Taysom is obviously superior to Riley.
Ive always liked Bronco, but this year he has shown that he is not up to the task.
Bronco should be the DC not the HC
PGViking dad: I saw those hits exactly the same way. It really irked me when the ESPN guys tried throwing blame on Anae for helmet to helmet hits.
I agree with other assessments here both by BYU and Aggie fans that next week will be the real test of where the Cougs are. The Aggies will be the best team we will have played so far this season -- especially offensively. This may be the first true test of the cougar defense.
@aggie84
"helmet to helmet"
Absolutely false. Have you decided to challenge utah "fans" for the king of classlessness title?
Our offense was very productive against a very weak defense. Weber State would have beat that team.
I am a great fan of Taysom's, and he is a great athlete, but I still say our passing game is suspect. I am disappointed Doman didn't use this easy game to work on our passing game, especially the >15 yd passes with which we seem to struggle so much. I know Taysom has a very strong arm but it didn't show last night. He was off target on the deeper balls.
I am excited about having a duel threat QB at the helm, but right now, it is still mostly a running QB. Once Taysom gets his passing accuracy in gear, and I'm sure he will, he will be a very, very special QB for BYU. Come on, Doman, it's in your ball court. It is up to you to develop this kid.
Williams was awesome! He should have been getting a lot more playing time up to now.
That "defenselesss," "helmet to helmet' nonsense was totally bogus. The announcer obviously had a chip on his shoulder.
Congrats to the Cougs! Williams brings an element to BYU's offense that we have lacked since Austin Collie left and that is speed. For the last 3-4 years, BYU is known for being brute and strong but lack speed and that catches up to you after a while, but tonight was awesome to see the quickness that BYU showed. Taysom Hill showed some speed too, faster than Riley I must say but Riley is a more power runner. Interesting combination, Riley-Alisa (power runners) Hill-Williams(speed runners). As for me, I like speed but I guess it depends on the team we play.
I was considerably miffed by all the "helmet to helmet" talk after the second hit, too. After all the replays of the first injury, and the total mystery that ensued, to mention it in the same breath is disingenuous at best.
And the second one? Yes, hat to hat, but but calling a defensive lineman who sees you coming and takes your block head on defesnless? Best non call of the night. Leave it that way.
News for you aggie fans writing on this article. Riley will start the game next week at quarterback.....for.utah state! We are working out a trade now for a usu player or coach to be named later. Good Luck with that.
