This summer wasn't anywhere near as hot as last summer. "scorching" is over-stating it.

According to the National Weather Service Weather Forecast Office in Salt Lake City, the following were the average high and low temperatures for Salt Lake City in 2012:

June:
High 88.3
Low 58.8

July:
High 94.9
Low 69.5

August:
High 94.3
Low 69.1

Here are the same months from 2011:

June:
High 78.9
Low 53.4

July:
High 92.5
Low 66.5

August:
High 92.2
Low 65.8

I will accept their actual scientific climate data instruments and research over your say so.
