What does upswing of attitude mean? Or is that just a banks pleasant way of saying the public and consumers are responding to the economy in favorable ways to benefit banks and financial institutions?.

I don't think bank or loan sharks are really justified in predicting the state of mind and thoughts of consumers based on the fact that banks, loan sharks, and mortgage companies thrive on the misery, poverty, debt, and indentured servitude of the masses.

An upswing of debt and loans in a recession has but one meaning, income and money is in short supply for the masses and turn to debt and loan sharks to supplement the suffering and poverty the masses are forced to live in. Borrowing money to buy food is not something this economy or country can tolerate any more.
