Congrats Utes on a gutty performance tonight. I think the we learned a lot about our team tonight that will help us the rest of the season. We won in spite of some of the worst officiating I have ever witnessed. The game shouldn't have even been close in the 4th quarter.
Again great win UTES!! Now go away little brothers!!
Whew! Talk about hanging on for the win. Three times. Remind anyone of the Olympics ?
byu will be lucky to be bowl eligible this year. they will lose to even the half decent teams on their schedule they are pathetic.
This was as good as any ugly rivalry game I can recall.
Seeing the fans rush the field and almost setting this game up for overtime was hilarious.
I bet several of you fans were fit to be tied over the officiating in this game. Seeing BYU get that last second, Riley knowing it with his one finger in the air, fans rushing the field.
Then the blocked kick, fans rushing the field again. Whit going berserk, fans going nuts.
I can only imagine the collective gasp as the second kick went up and then the doink! Ha ha, that's football but for one second you Ute fans were just dumbfounded and silenced by all of this. I think several fans would have come unglued and violent had BYU got that FG.
I'm glad for you. Life would have been pretty depressing around here on the DNews boards without you. Some of you take this football way too serious, especially this rivalry.
At the end of the day, it's just a game, and it's just entertainment.
It starts all over now, but next year you come to LES. Congrats... but the Aggies still own U.
I can't go to bed. I'm going to have nightmares about BYU getting one more chance at a FG.
The only way this game could have been worse is if the idiot fans would have lost the game for Utah. Utah won every aspect of the game. I wish Utah well the rest of the season.
I hope the Cougs work out their disipline issues. Boise will be louder and Notre Dame will have a rocking crowd. It is just one game.
Go Cougs!!!
BYU had the key advantages: senior QB, incentive, national ranking, etc. Utah had an unproven QB and were without their top rusher. They played well enough to win, especially the running game to keep the ball away from the Cougars just long enough to hold on to win.
Bottom line: BYU isn't a very good team.
Y fans have no way to spin this one. 3 in a row, 8 of 11. The Utes had to win it 3 times--no wonder we'll have a hiatus in'14 and '15.
BYU just needs thre...four extra tries to be able to play with the big boys.
I can still hear the "boink" as the ball bounced off the post.
Am I missing something or is Riley Nelson purposely not throwing the ball to Ross Apo? If I was Apo, I would opt out of the team next season and check to see if Kansas has room on their roster. Nelson only throws the ball to Hoffman and Larson, the tight end. Everyone else gets ignored. He's so predictable. What's going on between Riley and Apo?
Wow, what a game. It was ugly and exciting. Sure my cougars lost, I'll be having that "thrown out of the saloon" feeling for a while but life is good. SIncere congrats to the Utes!
C'mon major, Utah won in every aspect of the game....yup except for first downs, rushing yards, passing yards, total yards. They won the game which is all that matters but they didn't win every aspect of the game.
@sammyg:
And the U. owns YOU. Just sayin'.
It kind of reminded me of the USA/USSR Olympic gold medal basketball game in 1972!!
I came here to be a good sport and congratulate the Utah Team. So I will do just that. They played tough and I hope they have a good season.
As for some fans - I am sad that your first instinct is to speak ill of your opponent. This is one of the great rivalries in College football. What game is more fun? More exciting? More everything you want in a football game?
Tonight two very good teams battled to the bitter end - it could have gone either way. It would seem intellectual honest if we all admitted it was a fun game that will not be forgotten. It was great because the programs are both great.
Trust me - you would not be storming the field if this was Oregon State or Stanford or UCLA (USC maybe).
But it was BYU v Utah and that is what makes it fun.
So drop the lame talk about BYU not being any good. Take your win and be gentlemen. Thank your opponent for a good match. Shake his hand and wish him well.
I offer my hand. Thanks for a great game and until next year - good luck Utah.
....and Ducky is back in Tulsa again.
Brocno is still best coach and I'm so sick of refs making us loose every game. We beat areselfs again!
That's now 8 Utah wins in the last 11 games.
Utah owns BYU.
Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!....
...Riley Nelson...the Hero...had two interceptions and four fumbles--well, two, plus two so-called forward passes that happened to come out of his hand while being sacked. For three and a half quarters BYU got their butts kicked, and I was laughing out loud.
This is the only time I have rooted for Utah in this rivalry.
Our "Hero" can spin this loss any way he wants; but I hope that BYU fans are finally waking up to the reality that Nelson is NOT the vaunted QB he, and the press, constantly try to make him out to be.
...Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!...
This rivalry has more craziness than any rivalry in any sport anywhere. Tonight's game is easy to be viewed as the most crazy. But not so fast. As a Ute fan, I was not so comfortable when BYU had the 4th 12. I remember two games Utah had won until they gave up 4th and 18s. One in Lavell's last year, and one in 2007. Those two games where crazy.
More crazy. Tonight was the doink part II. But do ya'll remember the first one? Think Ryan Kanishero. That game didn't just end in a missed FG either. Utah got to the BYU 13 yard line on a pass that would have had a chip shot FG until an excessive celebration penalty was called. Utah was moved back 15 yards and missed the FG. It's like that karma came around on BYU 16 years later.
Outside the blowouts Utah won in 2004 and 2008, there have been 6 games in 8 years decided on the last play. The record is split 3-3 in those.
