Fun game! Nice comeback by the Cougars. Lights out defense by both teams. I thought Riley converting on 4th and 12 was 4th and 18 Hall to Collie all over again, but this time the magic belonged to the Utes!!!
Go Utes!!!
You don't play football on the sabbath. It seemed like the fates were on the side of the Cougars in the 4th quarter. Until the clock struck 11:59. Overtime would have put the game into Sunday. The fates have spoken.
It was an exciting game. The Cougs really need to clean up the offense. Miscues, fumbles, penalty after penalty. Give credit to the Utah fans and the Utah football team though. I think they were able to intimidate us and get us nervous. Crazy ending. Wow, college football can just be crazy. Well, let's keep moving forward and here is hoping for some less heart-rending games. Next week will be tough for BYU and Utah.
Actually, I have to give the Utes some credit. With All-American John White IV out and All-American Eric Rowe on defense and Blechen out, the Utes showed some grit. Jon Hays was great! He exceeded my expectations.
Chris B, you were right my friend. Me (a Utah fan) and hundreds of BYU fans were wrong. Those Y fans need to line up eat their crow and take their lumps.
What do you know, a PAC 10.2 doormat cellar dweller in a tiny stadium with an inferior TV deal owns BYU. There's trouble in Provo
Hard to laugh after a tough loss like that but Fairchild you succeeded.
Why must most of these rivalry games end in heartstopping drives... kudos to BYU for fighting back every last second when they could've just rolled over when it got tough.
How come Wittingham always has a bewildered look on his face? Every time they show him on tv he looks like he can't figure out what just happened. Just wondering
Lousy officiating & both teams dodged bullets.
Byu's nitro offense is not. Doman should be run out of town for using the option when its obvious it was a dud!
Turnabout being fairplay: Whit IMO holds Johnson back.
Sloppy coaching by BYU. How many times do they call an option that doesn't work? Passing game was non-existent for most of the game. I'm tired of hearing Bronco say that BYU is going to win by running the ball. Balanced offense wins games, not a 1960s game strategy.
Refs did all they could to help cougies but wasn't enough. Utes with their backups continue to dominate the Y. I'm sure all the excuses will be coming but nothing you can do about 8 of last 11. Utah dominates this series overall and recently.....enough said! This Ute fan is glad Riely was the QB and not Hall or Hill. Our defense besides a couple plays lights out as usual. Hays I thought you played really tough and deserve to be our starter!
Lets just hope now we can get all our players back in the lineup next week. The real tests are just ahead for the U.
if you recorded the game, go back and look at the fumble for a touchdown, utah was offsides, a you could barely see the ball through a down lineman. BYU should have won this game. GO COUGS
The field goal hit the upright of the goal post at 11:59, it had to hit the post, because the game had to end. BYU diesn't play on Sundays.
All and all, the best team ended up winning.
Tell me that the teams can't use a 2 year break from this series. If either team could have eliminated their own stupid penalities the game wouldn't have been close.
do the math: what are the odds of hitting a vertical pole with a football at 37 yards?
Note to the Ute fans: Yogi Berra quote -- " it isn't over until it's over." Twice yet.
It's over. gnight.
Congratulations Utes. You showed a lot of heart and found a way to win. As a Cougar fan I'm sad to say the Utes own the Cougs under Bronco. The Utes have won 7 of the last 10 and four in a row. But to Bronco, as he always says, it's just another game like, say, Weber State (no offense to the Wildcats). While the defense played well, we're reduced to a boring option offense by an offensive coordinator who was an option QB in high school and loved running the option in college. Tradition? Where's the tradition in that? Oh for the days of LaVell when it was actually okay to say it was a big game and get up for it. And for an exciting offense where you always believed the Cougs had a chance.
If you recorded the game, go back and look at the fumble for a touchdown. Even if Utah was offsides it was still called a touchdown, you could barely see the ball it was bouncing away from Nelson so fast. Utah still won the game. GO UTES
Refs LOVED byu that game.
3 in a row.
Go Utes!
re: USNGary 12:20 a.m. Sept. 16
Waaaaaah!
Maybe, byu would have scored more if the weren't so many false starts??
To Utah Fans - cograts!. Once again we see that Kyle Wittingham did an excellent job preparing his team for an important game. For us BYU fans, I believe we have to begin asking how we feel about Broncho Mendenhall implying in his interviews in the last couple of weeks that this is 'just another game'. Well, tonight we saw a team who just lost their starting quarterback and was without their star running back and yet they managed to beat BYU. What is the difference? Maybe it's better coaching? Increasingly it is becoming apparent why BYU offered Kyle Whittigham the coaching job at BYU before Broncho Mendenhal;the guy just plain knows how to motivate his players! I hope Utah has a very successful season and I hope BYU coaches wakes up to the fact that all games are not the same some day!
