My mother, who grew up in Baltimore, made darn sure her kids had a healthy dose
of paranoia before we left home. We always lock our doors and windows--all of
them--even when we're home. We live in a fairly safe neighborhood in Sandy,
but I think a lot of Utah neighborhoods are magnets for felons, because
we're (collectively) so happy, dumb, and naive.A recent article
about the woman who was raped by a door-to-door salesman is testimony enough to
how crucial it is to have good street--and home--sense.Could
Magda's tragic death have been prevented? Possibly. I just know that, with
two kids of my own and a third on the way, I don't want to take any chances
that could leave me dying of gunshot wounds in my own home.
There are some people who should never be allowed to mingle in decent society
and this convicted killer is one of them. This world is a safer place with him
locked up for life.
