Congrats to the Utes. Another W for a Utah team :)

After the Utes so-so performance against the worst AA team and after the Cougars absolute and clear dominance over WSU, I think some Utes are shaking in their cleats at the prospect of going up against the Blue in just two short weeks.

Nelson and his Cougars are going to prove a point on the Hill this year and put little brother back into his place.

After we get the Utes out of the way, we're headed toward the BCS. The Blue looked absolutely unstoppable last night.

"I think some Utes are shaking in their cleats at the prospect of going up against the Blue in just two short weeks."

The word you are searching for is "drooling". WSU has a weak defense, but still harrassed Nelson, sacking him twice. I can't wait to see what the Utes D can do against your blue boys. While Cougar fans pray for Jordan Wynn to get hurt again, they forget that it was the Utah defense which led last year's blowout.

It was a slow start, and that needs to change, but over all I'm glad to see Wynn back in the game and everything else going well! And no, I'm super excited to play BYU, it's always a fun game, and I have a lot of confidence in the Utes against them, so bring it on! But up first are the Aggies, so let's focus on them and beat them! Go Utes!

BYU fans have no need to hope for Jordan Wynn to get hurt; he's already proven time and time again that he panics under pressure, especially when he can't find a wide open receiver, which he won't, with this year's BYU defense.

It was BYU's own self-destruction last year that turned to momentum of the game in Utah's favor. Without Heap's unforced fumble into his own end zone, BYU would have led at the half 10-7. Without BYU's fumble at their own goal line on a kickoff return, Utah doesn't get that early second half gift. Neither turnover was caused by Utah.

Sounds like the Ute D did a great job against Northern Colorado High School. Congrats. Unfortunately, I couldn't find this game on DirectTV, so I had to watch the SC/Vandy game and then the BYU/WSU game on ESPN. They were easy to find.

The defense dominated, the offense is work in progress, and this year after game one only the kicking game was "abysmal".

One scrimmage down, Utah State will be a challenge their offense looked good.

I think the Cougars beat themselves.

Like when Marquess Wilson who should have scored 2 TDS if WS didn't have holding penalties? Or the 2 unforced TOs in a short field. BYU was impressive but please.

@Truth Machine

I see your still living in denial.

Over the last two years BYU's offense has averaged 13 PPG vs Utah.

TOs are one thing why couldn't BYU's defense step up and stop Utah from scoring TDs. WH last night had TO but they didn't quit. They held you to 2 FGs in the redzone in the 2nd half. BYU rolled over and played dead.

In your dreams. You still have a 54-10 loss to come to terms with.

As far as playing a weak opponent, how does Idaho, San Jose State, Weber State, and New Mexico State sound?

Really? Let me get this straight. You are explaining away a 54-10 defeat as though it were entirely BYU giving it away to Utah? Right. It's kind of like a boxer getting TKO'd in the first 15 seconds of the 1st round, then saying that he could have beaten the guy who knocked him out, but he just didn't want to...

You'd be wise to accept your last year's total defeat and move on.

As a BYU fan, I think BYU fans should keep a lid on the trash talk. We got drubbed last year, no matter how you look at it. We gave two gifts because BYU was bad, bottom-line. Bad teams give away gifts, and bad teams give up. We were bad that game, and Utah was good. Looking forward to a more competitive, amped up team this year.

BYU had 7 turnovers last year against Utah. Two of them were gifts, i'll give you that! But 5 of those turnovers were a result of Utah's superior defense. I'm tired of these Y'ning Y fans making excuses for their loss last year. Better teams cause and capitalize on turnovers and Utah did just that. Utah was playing with a wounded QB and still won that game.

The first half was close and BYU played well. But the game changer occurred when Utah recieved the ball the second half and Jordan Wynn completed a touchdown pass to Dres Anderson and BYU had no response after that. Utah's defense shutdown the Cougs offense and BYU's defense gave up.

Not really, no. One would think the team that lost by 44 last year would be the nervous ones but frankly I think both are eager to get to that game (though Utah has to be careful and make sure they get rid of Utah State first). BYU looked good yesterday but Utah's defense is way better than Wazzu's and Utah's offense is at least as good if not better than they were last year pre-Wynnjury.

Guess that means he faced no pressure from BYU last year.

Say what you want but it's clearly the Blue's year....

In the meantime, Riley Nelson is establishing himself as a Hesiman contender. I don't know if he wins but my guess is he makes that trip to New York.

Nelson is better and has a lot more heart than Tim Tebow and Kellen Moore combined. And better looking to I might add!

Did anyone notice that BYU's offense put up more yards (426 yds total offense) against a PAC-12 opponent than the Utes did (414 yds total offense) against a Division II defensive opponent that has only won 1 out of their past 20 games?

This doesn't of course decide the outcome when the Cougars and Utes meet, but it gives some sense of the quality of each offense...

It's fun tweaking the noses of Utah fans who are so fixated on the final score of that anomalous September game, that they are blind to the reality that the Utah team that barely beat WSU and lost to Colorado in late November, wouldn't have beaten BYU in late November. The rest of the country obviously recognized what BYU fans could plainly see, that BYU was the better team by the end of last season.

Which is more important, starting strong or ending strong?

One game does not a season make.

cosmo's cousin is a utah "fan" masquerading as a BYU fan. Of course utah "fans" here know that, they are simply trying to go along with the "joke" to try and make BYU fans appear to be delusional.

It's not working.

Duckhunter

I only saw the 1st quarter and a couple of minutes of the 2nd quarter because I left to go to the BYU game. What I saw was far less than impressive but utah obviously picked it up after I left because by the time I got to my seat at LES and checked the score on my phone they were up 28-0.

Of course they did what they should have done against what might possibly be the worst college football team at either ncaa level, you can make a pretty good case that they should have done quite a bit more. But it was the 1st game of the year and being sharp and on top of your execution in the 1st game is not something that should be expected from a team.

But it is not stretching things to say they need to be better than that to win the next 2 games, and those are MUST win games for utah. They have no chance at winning the pac12 so they need every possible win to just be bowl eligible.

All the focus will be directed to the Aggies this week. After all, my sister's team can be tough at times.

After game two, the focus will be on the Cougars from Provo, little brother's team.

Nope, not going to overlook those Aggies.
