    @motorbike

What matters to fans of a school is actually being able to watch their own team play. Why is it so important to you that other people watch the pac12 network? If you can't watch it then why do you care about Norman Oklahoma or Farmington New Mexico?

When the majority of the utah "fans" in utah don't even have access to it then it is inferior to the BYU deal where the majority of BYU fans in the ENTIRE USA have access to it.

And for your direct tv claim I hate to go all naval vet on you but would you please supply us with some evidence? Without evidence it is just you claiming it to be so and that really isn't much for the rest of us to go on.

"So perhaps you'd like to explain to us how being available to far less people makes the utah tv set up better?"
    ______

Do you seriously STILL need help with this? BYUTV vs Pac 12 Network certainly ends with BYUTV being in more homes ... but once again, get back to me on ratings which is the only thing that matters ... now if only there was a way to make sure the people who fall asleep watching little house on the prairie aren't counted. Oh well, you'll still come up drastically short and you know it!

By the way, DirecTV is done, so start factoring that in. Poor sammyg and Duckhunter, what ever will you guys whine about now? Never mind, we know you'll find something.

    And yes ... still laughing.

Anyone who has watched college football on ESPN knows...

You get the Big 10 on Saturday mornings & 90% of primetime games are the SEC.

byu is an upgrade as a Fri night filler over CUSA... no more no less.

Based on the number of other utah home games ESPN has elected to broadcast, despite the fact they have the right to show almost any of them they would like to show, I think it is a pretty safe assumption that ESPN is choosing to broadcast the utah/BYU game mainly because it involves BYU. Kudo's for being part of a conference that has other teams in it desirable enough to warrant an ESPN contract though. Without them this game has no chance of being broadcast on anything this side of kjzz seeing as it is a utah home game.

The pac 12 network IS NOT in 48 million homes at launch, you utah "fans" keep propagating that falsehood. The pac 12 network is on cable systems that reach 48 million homes but those cable systems are not making the pac 12 network avaiable to all 48 million of the homes they reach. It is actually A LOT LESS homes than that.

Here's a Utah fan who admits that BYU currently has better national coverage than my Utes. That may change, but if it does, it won't be for a while.

But I am more interested in seeing how the two programs stack up on the field once again. And I like the Utes' chances....

Nice, but if that's the best you can do, it's pretty pathetic.

BYU has won 3 of the last 4 versus Colorado and hasn't lost to the Buffs since 1947!
BYU has won 6 of the last 7 versus San Jose St. and hasn't lost to the Spartans since 1968!

    btw

Utah is 0-7 all time against Washington, including last season's beat down.
BYU is 4-4 all time against Washington, including BYU's 2010 win over the Huskies.

Utah is also 1-6 all time versus the SLC YMCA.

A losing record versus the Village People?

    Now that hurts!

WRONG!!! One of those two in-state rival games was courtesy of USU. BYU has absolutely nothing to do with the game in Utah, BYU can thank Utah for that game.

Just another illustration of BYU fans' over-inflated view of their tv situation.

Sorry, you misunderstood. The PAC Net is only AVAILABLE in 48 millions IF you like PAC 12 football enough to pony up the extra smack to subscribe to it. In other words, don't expect any "casual" fans to find your games while they're channel surfing.

  • da_gimp Salt Lake City, UT
    Aug. 17, 2012 5:56 p.m.

So let me get this straight. The PAC12 network is in 48 million homes at launch. The Big Ten network was in 17 million homes at launch, and the mtn. was in about 2 million homes at launch (if that). So tell me again how this is just the mtn 2.0?

  • Duckhunter Highland, UT
    Aug. 17, 2012 5:55 p.m.

    @waccy

Uh....I never said that. I said it's available on most systems and of course BYU fans, and the fans of the teams they are playing, will be watching it. I don't care if Trent from Mobile or Max from El Paso are watching it if they are not fans, if they are then they can both tune in, and will.

If Max and Trent are utah "fans" and the game is on the pac 12 network, well max and trent are screwed, and probably always will be. Kinda sad but funny all at the same time.

I'm not sure why you're even making a fuss about BYUtv and the PAC Net.

    Checking the schedules:

Wash St at BYU - ESPN
Weber St at BYU - BYUtv
    BYU at Utah - ESPN2
BYU at Boise St - ESPN
    Hawaii at BYU - ESPN
Utah St at BYU - ESPN
Ore St at BYU - TBA
BYU at Notre Dame - NBC

Georgia Tech, San Jose St, Idaho and NM St still TBA

    ------------

No Colo at Utah - PAC Net
Utah at Utah St - ESPN2
    BYU at Utah - ESPN2
    Utah at ASU - TBA
    USC at Utah - ESPN

UCLA, Ore St, Cal, Wash, and Ariz still TBA

Utah at Colo - FOX or FX

    ------------

SIX of BYU's 12 games are already scheduled for national broadcasts on ESPN or NBC

Only THREE of Utah's games are scheduled for ESPN, TWO of those courtesy of your in-state rivals

As CordonBleu already mentioned, most of BYU's games are already destined for national networks; most of Utah's games are destined for the far from national PAC Net.

You obviously don't understand the difference between having access and actually watching a game.

BYUtv is available in 65 million homes TODAY, including availability on DirectTV and Dish networks.

    The PAC Net isn't.

It's infinitely more likely that a fan who has access to BYUtv will tune in to watch a BYU game than a fan who doesn't have access to the PAC Net will tune in to watch a Utah game.

What's even more depressing, if you're a Utah fan, is most of BYU's game will be on ESPN, while most of Utah's games will be on the PAC Net.

That's just the way it is.

    Couldn't agree more.

The "selected outrage" of a few Utah fans caused by a few BYU fans daring to criticize the PAC 12 sacred cow is laughable.

Enter the wayback machine and compare the endless parade of Utah fans maligning BYU's contract with ESPN and BYUtv almost daily since BYU announced its television plans with both networks over two years ago.

The false "indignation" of the kids on the hill is laughable.

Do you Y fans realize how ridiculous you sound? It doesn't get much more pathetic than jumping on an article about the U and bashing the very beginning of a new network.
Have fun with it if you'd like but there's not a thing any cougar fan can say that can detract from what is the beginning of something awesome for Ute/Pac-12 fans.
No one with a brain expected that the network would have every kink worked out right away. But for those who think it won't get better and better from here, you're simply living under a rock.
Your jealousy is far too obvious cougies. All your comments do is make Ute fans laugh that much louder. Pathetic.

Love it! All of the chest-beating from Utah fans based on nothing but speculation of what is "projected" to happen.

Call us when the PAC Net is actually available nationwide and you have that first $10 million check in hand.

When Hill that crackbox-sized of a stadium is actuallyt expanded to big-boy size and the U stops gouging it's students with increased "athletic fees" and Utah's athletic program actually finishes in the black, then, and only then, will we believe that the Utes are "rolling in the dough".

Until then, it's nothing but a bunch of hot air blowing off the hill.

Just checked out the PAC 12 channel - - totally unimpressed with the overall broadcast quality and the TV personalities are a cross between the old "Mtn" broadcast and Rosanne Barr singing the national anthem. Pathetic that is all I can say. Not sure how the network will come up with quality announcers / color analysts etc. in 2 weeks. Looks like a re-birth of "The Mnt." channel which lacked professionalism in every way.

If the quality of the broadcast on Aug. 30 isn't a big improvement over the piece aired tonight (PAC 12 Women's soccer) then "the launch" should be renamed "fizzle".
