I read once (Scientific American or Psychology today) that the part of the brain that deals w/ "addictions" does not differentiate between Religion, football, Curry, or drugs.

But did your reading reveal anything about being touched by the holy spirit? It is there that the difference becomes evident.

JRJ, yes, my readings did indeed reveal much about being touched by the spirit and by the role of the Atonement in the recovery process. I like the wording of Step 12 in the LDS version of the 12 Steps: "Having had a spiritual awakening as a result of the Atonement of Jesus Christ, share this message with others and practice these principles in all you do."
