What a sicko. I believe he did have something to do with Susan's disappearance and I hope one day it comes out.
What an apparent travesty with a child, 2 grandchildren and a daughter-in-law that have paid a price for this kind of man that was left aloof from the process until too late. It is a shame that the court held papers, documents, etc. from the public/media to do some processing on their own. The public were left out of this process for over 2 years and the law enforcement and child protective services of both states are now able to say it was the other state's fault for what happened. This was a highly publicized process but not due to law enforcement. The results for the many other cases that aren't as proactive and able to do their best are left to rest. The Smarts were not only Smart and blessed but were capable through their access to the media to do more on their own. These two children that died in an instant with their father should not have been at that home, no matter how capable the child protective employee was. You should always have a safety factor in there from the law enforcement, court, and other services to protect the innocent children.
I don't like to be critical of law enforcement, and those in power over prosecution because their jobs are overwhelming, but I cannot see how all this evidence about the sick mentality of Josh and Steven Powell could be buried in documents for so long, and no detainment of Josh. Now we read that he was a "suspect" almost immediately, yet he took his sons and went back to the environment of his sex obsessed father. Something vital is missing in this entire enigma.
He at least knows where Susan's body is.
But what's perhaps even worse, in a short time this man will be on the streets again.
Well at this point, the legal system has done all it will.
The only comforting thing for me at this point, is knowing the no one will get away with
anything in the end.
We all have to worry about our own judgement, but I'd hate to be in the shoes of father and son Powell when that day comes.
Personally I'll be amazed if the dad lives for very long, knowing what really happened and
all that he is guilty of.
Susan and her boys are safely home now and away from the pain and sadness of their previous lives.
