"Why shouldn't Romney be open and totally honest ..... " - you mean like your boy Obama??

There is a sucker born every minute, isn't there?? Well, Mitt Romney isn't one.

If you demand "transparency", then how about we start with certain documents Obama has kept hidden from the American public??

Romney is a rich man - you jealous liberals will have to deal with it. If he wants to buy a horse (or anything else) with his own money, more power to him.

Here's the real news:

16 Trillion in debt, and rising. 8.3% unemployment and rising. Obama needs to go now.

@UtahBruin: Firts, Turn off the "journalists" at FOX "News!"

Romeny HAS a proven record of tax avoidance. He claimed to be a RESIDENT of Utah for property tax purposes (thus getting the lower rate for the manse); while claiming publicly he was a RESIDENT of Massachusetts to support the ten year residency requirement to run for that state's governor, but yet he was also was paying NON RESIDENT income tax rates to Massachusetts. You cannot claim to be a resident and pay non resident taxes. In order to run for Massachusetts governor he had to refile all his tax returns and pay the back tax owed and the penalty to both Utah and Massachusetts. I am calling it "avoidance" to be charitable...there is also another word you could use, and that word is 'fraud."

First Obama tried to create the mythical "War on Women". That blew up in their faces when they attacked Ann Romney.
Then they tried to besmirch Bain Capital as some kind of corporate raider. Even Bill Clinton said the Bain has a sterling record.
Then they tried to say that Romney did not save the SLC Olympics. Salt Lake knows better.
Now they are claiming the Romney is a tax cheat with zero evidence. Anyone could make the kind of claims that Harry Reid is making. In any court the burden of proof is on the accuser. Reid should put up or shut up. In any other arena this would be called either slander or libel.

Obama has a long history of defeating opponents, Democrat or Republican by getting his serigots to open sealed documents and then attacking, merited or not.

Romney should absolutely not disclose his tax records and help Obama with his opposition research.

Can you name one single person who wants to pay more taxes than required by law?
Anyone who pays more than they absolutely have to, failed an IQ test.

Again, the prosecution always reveals his hand first, in this case the accuser Reid. Then the defendant reveals their information next. So in this case you say you believe Reid, and yet you haven't seen his evidence. That's a pretty mindless assumption on your part.

I am a Romney supporter, I think that is obvious. And I too wish that he would just release them and dispell the rumors, but I don't know if he can, I have had no evidence either. I think he is telling the truth about his taxes, but I don't know. Reid on the other hand is accusing, so if you are going to accuse, show your hand to force the other to show theirs. Reid is making himself look stupid and childish. If he shows his source, his hand in other words, then the childish part flips to Mitt if he with holds information. Kind of like a previous comment of mine. Obama was and still is childish about his birth certificate. We still haven't seen it, seen the long form, but not the real thing. He is still being childish about it.

Who needs proof when you can just tell a lie and let the MSM go with it? It's funny that Ried who has made millions as a Senator when they only make 140k or so per year. This is a desperate move that it makes him look even worse than normal. Who in Nevada is voting for this guy. They can't find any dirt on Romeny so they make it up. We should add the phrase Taxers to the truthers and birther movements. Taxers people who say that Romney is a tax cheat even though their is zero proof of it.

I think the real frustration for Romney is the ease with which Obama's team is able, with their media allies, to turn every single challenge into charges of pettiness, partisanship, kookiness, and even racism. From Reverend Wright to Tony Rezko to his birth certificate to his drug years to his college marxist leanings to his college transcripts to his horrible appointees to his crony capitalism to Fast and Furious to his significant flip flops and gaffes, no one dares challenge or vet Obama too deeply for fear of being labeled as kooks and racists.

Only in Romney's most fairytale dreams would every challenge be similarly met with mockery and derision by the mainstream press as happens every day with Obama.

@UtahBruin -- I challenge you to get a Utah certificate of live birth if you were born in California. Please take a few minutes and order one and then get back on here and tell us how it turns out.

"if Reid is so confident, then he should reveal his source. "

Well that can be a bit complicated. Let's say for sake of argument that Reid did hear this from someone who is part of Bain (regardless of whether the claim made by said person is accurate or not). It's possible that this person doesn't want to have their name disclosed because if it is a Bain insider (I don't think he made it clear if it's a current or former Bain member) then they could risk some sort of punishment from their company for this. I understand that it'd be helpful if the source were willing to go on the record but... I'm not so sure he/she wants that.

Looks like Harry Reid used one of the oldest political dirty tricks in the book: Find (or make up) a nasty rumor, claim "someone" told you about it, say you have no first hand knowledge "but if it's true....", then sit back and watch it catch fire.

Of course, if it's true it isn't a dirty trick. But given the way this whole thing has rolled out I'd bet my mortgage that Harry Reid has jumped into the pig trough.

Hey Harry,

Almost six trillion dollars were added to the debt in the past four years. That's more then enough to provide health coverage to all our citizens.

Instead of focusing on Romney's tax returns,--find out what happened to that six trillion.

While you're at it, how about providing an audit of the stimulus package for us to see.

I can't remember, was it Romney who gave hundreds of millions to Solyndra?

UtahBruin,

A certificate of live birth lists the hospital and the city you were born in. If you look at President Obama's Certificate of Live Birth it lists the hospital and city in the state of Hawaii he was born in. Which should have ended that discussion

However that again is not my point. This is not about President Obama, this is about Potential President Romney. Since he is proposing further tax cuts for the wealthy, I think that it is perfectly appropriate for Americans to want to see his tax returns.

He has every right to choose not to produce those returns, and in doing so he chooses to allow this controversy to continue. When you run for the highest office of the land, your prior conduct is fair game. I didn't see the republicans take then candidate Obama's word that he separated ties with Reverend Wright and drop that attack.

I know that probably means that I engage in class warfare, since any discussion of the rich in their money is inappropriate according to the republicans but oh well I believe in the First Amendment.

I don't know where this "No More Mr. Nice Mitt" comes from. Romney plays it rough and always has. Just ask Perry, Santorum, and Gingrich.

I don't know if Romney has anything to hide. But he sure makes it look like he has something to hide, the more stubborn he becomes about releasing his taxes. He could clear this all up and make his critics look like fools. That is, if he really has nothing to hide.

Romney needs to fire his entire political staff. His message is getting buried. His most important message is the economy, jobs, and freedom away from socialism.

The problem is the democrats continue to play cards that Romney and his staff seem to get stung every time. You want tax issues to go away. Make your tax returns visible- no one cares. Legally he doesn't need to show his taxes, but the quickest way to get this thing to disappear is to play a higher card.

Secondly, he needs to change the spotlight onto Obama. There are so many issues he is not showing any passion for (Socialism, growing government, higher taxes, no jobs, etc) Somehow his advisors and teams have no clue how to get this into the press. If they can't figure this out, this election is pretty much over.

Playing defense is killing your campaign.

I could care less about his tax returns but the fact that Romney won't release them so dogmatically leads you to believe he has something he wants to hide. Why else wouldn't he just release them? Let's be logical folks ...

Harry Reid is lying or obtained information if released to him by a preparer or the white house or the IRS is a felony act. If a Bain employee who may have prepared Mitt's tax return, it would be a felony act. So for Reid to say he received it from a reliable source, his source is a felon. That means his source is a felon or is lying.

The IRS cannot disclose tax information, remember Hillary and cogot into some hot water attempting to access republican tax returns.

Mitt is definitely hiding something in those tax returns. With as much political flack as he is receiving for not releasing them, there is only one logical conclusion. Mitt believes that the damage from releasing his returns will be worse than the damage from not releasing them. And the damage from not releasing them is great, given that Mitt is getting pressure from both the left and right to do so. Between now and November, the amount of speculation and pressure about Mitt's unreleased tax returns is only going to go up and up. Again, what is in those returns must be pretty damning for Mitt to endure all this just to keep them secret.

If Romney hadn't paid his taxes for 10 years, we would have heard about it long before now. It is particularly unfortunate that Reid, as a fellow Latter-day Saint, saw fit to make such an accusation. Isn't there something in the scriptures about not bearing false witness?

JWB

Mitt Romney has provided the needed documents and certifications, etc to the Federal election authorities, as needed or he would not have gotten this far. Providing tax returns wouldn't end the firestorm, as the Chicago group would request more and more documentation. President Obama didn't have a strong opponent last time and the President didn't have to provide much of anything except the Federal requirements as Hope and Change was riding the wave. He was even able to drive Hillary from the competition with his community action committees in every major city he visited. He is limited from using those same groups as he did before but his Chicago group have their ways to move those people during and after the DNC national convention. Senator Reid is not squeaky perfect and is opening his door to become as Representative Pelosi, at the end of his leadership, one way or another, inside or outside the Senate. The Presidential process has so many requirements in the various stages that there are only small things for an outside candidate to fear. Hopefully, in 90 plus days we will have a change of the Hope and Change President, with Mitt.
