So is this paper soley for mormons? Why isn't the paper discussing Utahns in the Olympics, instead of just mormon's in the Olympics?

West Haven, Utah

The Deseret News is owned by Bonneville News Corp, a corporation owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In addition, this article is entitled 'Mormons in the Olympics, days 1 and 2: swimming and fencing.' Finally, this article is found under Faith - Mormon Times. So, yes, this article is written specifically for those of the 'Mormon' faith who would find this of interest. If you go to the Sports - Olympics section, you'll find various articles on the Olympics, including 'US women volleyballers defeat Brazil in Olympics', 'Video: Utah women's basketball well-represented in 2012 Summer Olympics', 'Lone Peak senior McKenzie Willey makes U.S. High Performance volleyball team', and others. So the paper is clearly discussing Utahns in the Olympic games.

I guess you'll have to answer your first question yourself about this being a paper 'soley for mormons', but it seems to me that there's plenty in this paper for everyone.

If, on the other hand, you simply want to complain about the Deseret News printing items that do not coincide with your specific theology, I would request that you please stop. It does get old and annoying.

Do you have kids, a pet, a life partner perhaps? If so, do you talk about your own pet, kids, and/or life partner more than the neigbors kid, pet, or his life partner? My guess is yes.

I love it when people get bothered by all the Mormon talk. I am so happy this has clearly upset you. I will love all future articles about Mormons in sports. 1 because I will like the articles and 2 because I know they will bother you.

Thank you and God bless

Candide; "Why isn't the paper discussing Utahns in the Olympics, instead of just mormon's in the Olympics?"

I think you meant to say "the article" instead of "the paper". Clearly this paper has lots of articles that have nothing to do with Mormons or the Olympics.

Just wondering why it matters which religion the athletes are? It seems to me that people must be very insecure in their own beliefs if they need to validate themselves by knowing that there are a few people out there participating in sports that share their particular mythology. I don't need to know how many pastafarians there are competing to understand the truth of his sauce. Pure, unadulterated, hubris.

@ Candide: Well said. The Olympics is a competition of nations, not religions.

@ Ted H: Your argument is completely off base. The only thing taken from it is your sense of anger and vitriol for those with a different opinion.

Don't forget the upcoming Paralympics, there are Mormons competing there as well.

Hey Candide! Guess what?! Don't read the Mormon Times and then you won't have to read about Mormons at all!! Problem solved!

Hey Florida! Guess What?! It's not the mormon times, it's the D-News!!
