Well, we knew he wasn't going to appoint Mitt.....

So will Elder Snow get the same cold shoulder treatment from the right as Huntsman did as one who was appointed to a position by President Obama?

Congratulations to president Obama and Mr. Snow; good, smart choice.

Years ago, before the internet, the company I worked for tried to export product to Taiwan. We needed someone over there. That person, instead of being our man to our customers, thought of himself as the customer's man to the company. He didn't represent the company and the effort failed. I don't know if that was the reason for the failure but as I read this I wondered and hope that he shall stand up and be the Church's representitive to a domineering government and not the other way around.

Nice try, Mr. President. Nice try.

I hope that this is a positive move. I guess only time will tell. I'm sure that Elder Snow will do his best to represent the church's interests; though that doesn't guarantee that the government will always respond to the church's interests. Again, only time will tell.

Did anyone but me look at President Obama's family tree when a link was posted online at one time? Guess who is in it? President Hinckley! Yup. If our current President has deep, positive feelings for the Church, part of the reason could be that he is sensitive to the call of being a father, and the closeness of family life. But it could also be the fact that there are members of the Church on his family tree branches, as well. Think, think, think about it.

Nachtmerrie_in_Brugge & djk,

How cynical & childish. The president appoints an LDS to an important position, and like spoiled children you throw it back in contempt.

What makes you think he cares enough about the Mormon vote to pander to it anyway? Don't get too big for your britches, the LDS is still a small minority in this country.

Emajor, true as you said it. Furthermore, the President realizes that it is fair that all should have a seat at the table, and is sensitive to that. He is a student of history as well as one who no doubt has studied all the different things that each group has to offer, and has spoken, no doubt, to other LDS of the way we operate some of our related programs. Recall, if you will, the Helping Hands program, and the many times LDS programs have come to the aid of various disasters, as well as other programs to assist not only members but nonmembers worldwide. In our country, a wise President makes certain that he, or someone he assigns, knows of these things and fills him in on this kind of detail. Without the underlying knowledge of these things a servant of the people--that's what elections are about--cannot properly serve.

You think he did it for votes?

Wonder if he lost more votes than he gained.

The LDS should be thrilled and thankful. Shame on some of you.

the problem is the timing. appointing a LDS now? it's just too obvious that O is a panderer

It doesn't matter if it is political pandering. Historically, it is about time.

This way, too, if Romney wins nobody can say "Oh, now there is a Mormon on that comittee because the Prez is one."

Just be grateful, people. Interesting contrast with 1844, that's for sure.

crunchhem,

"the problem is the timing. appointing a LDS now? it's just too obvious that O is a panderer"

So President Obama expects this appointment to enable him to carry Utah this November?

Now why didn't I suspect that?
