Obama criticizes Romney for buying Olympic jackets from Bulgaria not made in America. The funny thing is that most congressmen and white house members including President Obama where shirts, ties, shoes, socks, pants, and underwear made in China.
America is pro-trade and enters into numerous trade agreements. The not made in America rhetoric falls on deaf ears. Even the US Military does not have weapon system made 100% in America, because the US has lost the mfg base to do that. In fact, Japan could prevent the US from manufacturing high end weapons if they chose to withhold critical parts only made in Japan. If we outsourced Congress, we could get Senators and Representatives for $10,000 a year. The savings would be enormous.
Whether you happen to personally like Mitt or not, you have to admit that he understands the economy. He understands that the taxes proposed by President Obama on the "rich" will provide enough additional revenue to run the government for a mere 8.5 days. At the same time, it will cost hundreds of thousands, if not millions of lost jobs. The "rich" will survive, no matter how much you tax them. It is the poor people that they hire, and provide with health insurance and retirement plans, and wages that will suffer. Mitt understands that very well...Barack "somebody else made that happen" Obama simply does not.
"Bennett said when he took Romney around the Capitol to meet key members of Congress soon after he was hired..."
What? Is there a typo here, or what? Who was hired as what? Did the DN mean "Leavitt" who they were talking about in relation to his cabinet post, instead of "Romney?"
All in all I thought this was a fairly represented article showing the opinions of both Romney supporters and detractors.
My own opinion is that Romney is a bigger and better "community organizer" than Obama.
Score:
Obama 3.5 years of dealing death-blows to the US economy and whining that he couldn't do more, Romney 0, but a man with a plan who cares more about our nation than about staying in the private sector where he could be earning more millions.
Romney didn't save the SLC Olympics; American tax payers are the ones who saved the Olympics, Romney just went to Washington and picked up the tax payer money to bail out the Olympics. Romney is trying to sneak the credit for what the American tax payer did without even mentioning the tax payers bail out of the olympics. That doesn't seem honest.
Obama and Michelle couldn't even convince the IOC to trust them with the Olympics in Chicago.
Joan Watson. Mr Romney proposes to steer the country out of debt using the same tactics that were used to get us into this mess. Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it.
Sounds like Mitt is so moody even he can't recognize himself from year to year. Or even from speech to speech. Do we even want this guy for President? I would have still voted for President Obama, and I would not have refused to support whomever was elected, since we have that kind of system. But I would certainly have felt a lot better had the candidate had been Jon Huntsman, Jr., who had some experience, and said what he meant when he said it, if my favored choice had not won. However, I think the American public will not be hoodwinked. We will be fortunate enough to have a second term for the President who understands what most Americans are facing.
So --
Would a President Romney do the same thing to save America that he did for the SLC Olympics? ---
i.e., Run to Washington and beg for more $ Money?.
huh, what?!...gsap...hey, wait a second!....
Ask yourself this, what if Mitt never stepped in to SAVE the mess of that Olympics?
MyChildrensKeeper said, "Didn't the IOC already tell Utah not a chance of getting the games here for many decades to come?"
You got it all backwards. It was the IOC that said SLC was good place for the Olympics. To the International people, there is no culture difference between Salt Lake, Denver, Reno, or Montana. They only want what is successful. It was this optimism from the IOC that made Utah keep their venues despite heavy yearly costs. Salt Lake has the best chance with the IOC.
On the other hand, it was the U.S. Olympic committee that made it sound like it would be decades before Utah got another chance. In other words, the US Olympic Committee is not going to help Utah. I wonder though, if the US Olympic Committee is just playing politics.
I first met Romney directing traffic at the bobsled venue waving to everyone as they parked.
I don't know if it was his idea or follow-through, but the SLC Olympics broke tradition by offering single event tickets. In the past, you had to buy ticket packages that were too expensive for common people like me. More people enjoyed a piece of the Olympics too when they held the medal ceremonies at it's own venue at a modest cost. It was the first Olympics for some time to be an Olympics for the people, not just rich visitors.
Well, I knew that the candidacy of Mitt Romney would be a problem for the State of Utah and the LDS Church, but I newer for a minute thought that the barbs and slams would come from the Prime Minister of England.
I worked for the Salt Lake Olympics with John Bennion as a member of the event ticketing staff and it was a great experience. We were well trained, we had fun, we got to meet people from all over the world. It was an experience I will never forget. For a staff that worked only 8-12 weeks, things were so well organized it was amazing. Mitt has my vote and there's nothing that could persuade me otherwise.
