I once considered myself a good friend of Mark Hofmann. Does that make me suspect or of questionable principles?

NanBW, no, but it makes you more interesting and perhaps even mildly newsworthy.

This still does not change my mind about Mitt Romney he is the person who this country needs at this time. Like many of us we are sometimes lied to or even just innocent about those who we associate with. My ex-husband was a Missionary in my mission and he turned out to be a cheat, a fraud and a womanizer. Yet he was one of the best missionaries in our mission. All of us are fooled every once in awhile. Mitt is the one who needs to be elected for pull this Country up again and make us Strong again. God Bless America and God bless Mitt and Ann Romney.

I'll bet he claimed close ties with a lot of people. Power hungry people often name drop and try to appear more important than they really are. That is nothing new.

Is he a Mormon as well? ;) (I was too lazy to read the rest of the article)

Anyone can get their picture with Mitt just stand there and click the button.

I personally could have done it 5 times, doesn't make me good or bad just there.

Totally unneeded, one article was enough.

The headline of this article: "GOP activist charged with rape claimed close ties with Mitt Romney" with accompanying smiling picture of the pair standing togather, in the online article, is reprehensible.

It is just another example of extremely poor judgement recently on the part of Deseret News editors.

Denial. Denial. Denail. I'm sure that will be the reaction of these editors to my comments. Many journalists simply cannot admit that the way they present and stylize a story creates inferences that are often misleading or false. Yet they don't seem to care.

Public figures have their pictures taken with thousands of people, many of them influential. How are they to know what's going on in the private life of someone they were on stage or camera with for perhaps a few moments?

1) all are sinners and all can sin.
2) each person is responsible for his own sin.
3) In the eyes of God all have sinned and are separated from their glory.
4) if the sin of a friend is another reason to not be good. So no one is good. Everyone has friends sinners.
5) Do not judge a person by the acts of another.

So dont mind about ^^

Why are you all defending MItt..... I didn't see anything in here that mad Romney look bad at all. I can assure you everyone here has known, worked with or even been friends with someone who has done something unpleasant that you don't know. Has nothing to do with your, nor does this have anything to do with Mitt.

Or is this just over reaction because of the years of the over reaching scrutiny that Mr. Obamas friends list has under gone?

There person with the problem here is the guy who knew Romney - not Romney. No need for the rush to defend Mitt.

I seriously thought that the Deseret News was better than that. This story is not news, it is not worthy of space in the paper and the title itself is hearsay best which again is not news. It seems like the news these days is less about what is important to our lives and well being and more about sensationalism. Why can't a once respected organization like the Deseret News stay about the quagmire and simply concentrate on the real news. Mitt Romney has already made a statement about this issue and it should have stopped at that.

I was in a room with Romney once. Does that count as "close ties?"

Mitt Romney needs to man up, provide tax returns and give a clear vision of what and how he will serve the nation if elected president. So far his campaign has been based on his idea that he his handsomer, richer, closer to god, and more entitled to be president than Obama and he wants to be president because he thinks it is his turn, and he should get what he wants. Voters need more insight into who Romney really is: is he about anything more than money, or is that the only world he knows. Why has he not (or no one in his family) served the nation in uniform, etc.

He won't be close anymore!!

re:sergio are you for real? When you get off your ivory tower and come join the common folk. Maybe we need more of investigation into Obama especially why hasn't he or his family served in the military? Your assumptions about Romney and accusations are ridiculous.

Stop the double standard.

I know YOU don't like it,
and you are trying desperately to dis-associate him from your Love-feast with Mitt Romney or any other Republican politician -- but keep this in it's proper perspective...

It has EVERYTHING to do with.

This guy not only defined himself, promoted himself, and highlighted everything about himself about as being a GOP activist,
but
He actually used it as his his means for luring these poor women.

Which makes it 100% completely relevant.

Sorry.....

Sergio - if you want to know about Romney's platform - what he plans to do - in detail - go to his website and read. mittromney.com or ask him to lunch and let him explain it to you over a Chick-Fil-A sandwich

this is no news and what was their point? I will vote for Mitt Romney!

This headline is a thinly masked attempt to smear Mitt Romney's reputation. I echo what others have said. ANYONE can get their picture taken with Mitt Romney! He probably gagged when he saw the headline and the picture.

Agree with other readers. This is not news. D News comes across like Fox News on this type of reporting.
