I strongly recommend that you read any of Dr. Joel Fuhrman's books--Eat to
Live, Disease-Proof Your Child, or Super Immunity. His whole focus is on eating
foods with the highest nutritive value not only to maintain a healthy weight but
to stave off diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, autoimmune diseases, and
cancers. He shows exactly what foods do, either for good or for bad, at a
cellular level. It is compelling. I cannot recommend it highly enough. It has
changed our lives. As parents particularly, we feel driven to provide our
children with the right foods so that they can be healthy and avoid diseases in
the future. It is hard in a fast-food world, but we are teaching our children
the "whys" behind our decision.
