According to your source, "outsourcing is supposed to refer to hiring an outside company for tasks previously handled in-house." There is nothing wrong with a company contracting with another firm for services previously handled in-house. What you are referring to and what worries so many is "off shoring" jobs, where jobs are sent overseas. There is no job that is safe from being outsourced, virtual companies will always use firms with expertise to handle jobs that were previously done internally; CEOs, CFOs, legal counsel, IT, janitorial, marketing, and even health and medical jobs can be outsourced to a specialist firm. The list is too long to list but all jobs can be outsourced. But not all jobs can be sent off shore. The Deseret News even uses contract journalists, photographers and editors. Those jobs are outsourced but not off shore.
