Look for Bingham to be right there again. 5 kids already offered Div 1 scholarships and another 2 or 3 should be coming. Looking forward to the game against Alta, Valor Christian and Lone Peak.

Alta has another brutal schedule, but if they can put together some wins over tough opponents they could be ranked nationally.
Timpview, Bingham, Brighton, Jordan, and Cottonwood all look like tough games, and of course playing USA Today national champ Don Bosco will be a barometer game for Utah football.
Alta has the best group of receivers, maybe ever, with at least three of them legit D1 players and all four being recruited by Utah, Utah State, BYU, and Weber.
My early, early top 5 teams.

Jordan
Bingham
Alta
East
Lone Peak

Best case scenario for Utah football is Alta, Bingham, and Jordan all win their out of state games, and one of the Utah teams goes undefeated.

It should be noted that this is the last season as Alta as we know it before the big split. It should be a season to remember.

Valor out of the Denver area is the real deal. They are a private school that openly recruits, so much so that teams in their own league have refused to play them. They had one relatively close game and I think one their last state title by about 50 points. They will be a tough test for Bingham to say the least.

Some great schools coming to Utah. Great opportunity to put Utah H.S. Fball on the map. We have thought all along we can compete with the best in the country well were going to have an opportunity to do it prove it.

*2011 USA Today #23 - Valor Christian, CO vs. Bingham
*2011 USA Today #1, this means High School National Champion, Don Bosco, NJ vs Alta
*2011 Washington State Champ - Skyline, WA vs. Cottonwood - By the way Skyline has won 9 of the last 11 WA State Championships.
*Long Beach Poly, CA vs.Jordan - I think everyone knows who LB Poly is. Yes, a premier power out of So. Calif. These guys run the option with serious power and speed.
*St. John Bosco, CA. vs. Jordan - A private Catholic school out of Cali that recruits, plays in probably the toughest division in California with Servite, Santa Margarita Defending Pac-5 State Champ, Mater Dei, and Orange Catholic. Oh yeah, Orange Catholic is the one who smacked our Utah team in the mouth last year in Cali and then took last in this div.

Good Luck Utah Football, I think we will need it!

Utah Bruin I completely agree, Utah football has a chance to really make a name this year. Not sure what the results will all end up, but if you think of the possibilities this could be the greatest season in Utah football history. If Jordan, Alta, Bingham, and CW all win their out of state games, then our state 5A champ should be a top 25 team.

"If Jordan, Alta, Bingham, and CW all win their out of state games, then our state 5A champ should be a top 25 team"

If Jordan, Bingham, Alta and CWood win their out of state games, they should be in the USA Today Top 25, and one of them happens to run the table and win the 5A, they should be Top 5 no doubt. Especially if it is Jordan, who I think is going to be a tough out if their defense can show up. But they would have to beat Alta and Cottonwood during the season, beat Long Beach Poly, CA, and St. John Bosco and then beat maybe Alta or Cottonwood a second time in the playoffs and beat Bingham as well. That would be like a Man Vs. Food Challenge and to do that after Alta beats, Don Bosco Prep, NJ and Bingham Beats Valor Christian, CO and CWood beating St. John Bosco, CA. Seriously, tallest order, definetely MAN vs. FOOD biggest and most serious challenge.

I grew up in Lakewood, CA. Was in the same league and played against LB Poly, played St. John Bosco in the playoffs. That is the only reason I know so much about those two schools. Poly is big, powerful and fast. Bosco is huge and talented, like I said they recruit. Their O-Line will definetely average 300, they always have. These guys look like Notre Dame size and uniforms. I can't speak all that intelligently about Valor, CO, Skyline, WA, or Don Bosco Prep, NJ. But they have obviously proved themselves with their accomplishments. This is going to be exciting to see how we fair. This is a great test. I am really excited to go watch some of these games. It will be interesting to see how Don Bosco handles Alta's passing game, Don Bosco I think is a big power run team from what I have read. I think Valor is the same way for Bingham Skyine I think is usually a passing school, and St. John Bosco when I played was a pro style with a bit more pass. This is going to be fun and all the games are in Utah.

I see Utah winning 1 maybe 2 of those games. Sorry, I hope I'm wrong.

UtahBruin

I am not sure I see them winning any of them. If they do not, I hope they are able to keep it close and tight nit games. If the win, Utah Football is on the map!!

Don Bosco is a big team who also recruits all over the east coast and haven't lost a game since early in 2008 (47 straight). In the process they've beaten Bergen Catholic 6 times, Manatee FL, Mission Viejo, and De La Salle, along with several other top out of state teams. They do run the ball and rely on their defense and special teams to create scoring opporunities, Alta really has their hands full with this one but with their talent at receiver they could just pull it off.

Im stoked for this season,

NO CLEAR cut favorite.

I dont care what all the Jordan fans have to say about it. 5A is more open this year then it has been in a while.

Jordan, Cottonwood are the two favorites in my opinion especially with how many recruits Cwood has already, with there starting QB going to Alabama. His weapons are going to UCLA, AND CAL, with lineman also getting them same offers.

Jordan returns all there linemen and the best Freshman QB ive ever seen. Well just see if there just all Hype again because we all know Jordan can talk up a good team.

Bingham should win region 4 this year, with LP losing there whole team, but still alot of question marks for the miners.

Jordan Alta Brighton Cottonwood will be a good region.

Not sure what to expect out of Region 1 this year, because again we all know no one from REGION 1 does anything in Football since davis in 2004. basketball since 2005 fremont and baseball well never since 5A started.

It's Orange Luthern....a Catholic School. not Orange Catholic I believe.

I don't see Bigham or Alta beating Don Bosco or Valor C. Valor has a new QB in Luke Del Rio (Dad is coaching Broncos the Jack del Rio)...so he is new but they are loaded. They can be beat on a great night. Bbeing at home, a couple big plays and turnovers you never know. I see that one very close. Don Bosco..that's a big order. Last years team would have rolled any team we have in Utah by minimum 2 TDs. I have seen them play. Plain power.

But don't be surprised people....the level of HS football in Utah is very very good. Utah leads the nation in D1 players per capita in the nation. And the HS All Star team Coach Peck from Bingham took and won the 7 on 7 event representing Utah has never been done before and was huge.

I think CWood can beat Skyline, since it's here.

Jordan might surprise us and win both.

Either way lets get it on! HS ftball is the best.

Orange Lutheran is a Lutheran school in the Pac 5 league in the Southern Section. They went 7-4 and fired their coach after finishing last in their league. The rest of the schools are Catolic schools.

@binghamalum : So Fremont beating Bingham, and Syracuse beating Alta was doing nothing in football? :D Couldn't resist, I do agree with you on the overall look on 5A this year! There's alot of talent in the State this year! I think Region 4 will be down to LP and Bingham again and that will be a fun one to watch, because Jordan's backup QB is going to LP now, so if they start him at QB, then that's a high scoring game right there!

Now, I don't know what to expect in 4A, except that if Logan can get a good QB, then they will challenge for the title again because most of their starting recievers were underclassmen this year!

3A is going to be interesting - Grantsville and Stansbury return most of thier teams from last year, and last year Region 11 was a bit down I'll admit, but it should be alot tougher this year. Morgan has amazing underclassmen as well, so they will most likely make a good run in the playoffs. Not sure how Region 9 is doing this year, does anyone care to comment on that.

I agree with Binghamalum in regards to how wide open 5A is this year.

(Preseason) Top 5

5A

1. Jordan
2. Cottonwood
3. LonePeak
4. Bingham
5. Syracuse

Utah County wise, watch out for Timpview. They return like 14 starters including their QB, RB,s, 2 receivers and a good D front. I think Orem is just getting better and Timpanogas will surprise some people. But East, Timpview, Logan I see gettIng back to the turf at RES.

5A ut county wise LP will be the best. AF may hang around In a lot of close games and Hamilton at PG will immensely prove that situation over the previous head coach. But I see no one in 5A from uT valley challenging this year.

2011 saw Utah Valley dominate in winning the 5A football, both 4A and 5A basketball tltles, 5A baseball, both 4A and 5A wrestling in the 4 biggest boys sports. Interesting to see how football starts off this year. I see Timpview as the only one with a shot at winning it from utah valley.

Utah county did well last year for sure.

basketball well already just give you guys the title this year. No one has a single chance in basketball, so hopefully this year the football season gives us alot of new faces and names to really enjoy the upcoming season.

I love hearing all the noise from Jordan already, coaches mentioning we should be ranked top 15 in the nation to start the year. Ha HA ha that made me laugh.

A team who has some very good offensive lineman back, and there stud QB who is still only a sophmore. But lose in the semis and expect people to understand well now its there time.

Last year having to play Davis and Viewmont was a easy breeze into the semi's where your back up qb basically played the game of his life and still lost.

Nice preseason, with games with Kearns, Layton, and a young young fremont team, but nice pick up game with Cal Poly.

I hope that Cwood beats Jordan, as well as Alta or Brighton.

Good luck to all teams this year.

wolfalum how do you put Cottonwood at 2? I'll be surprised if they are within 4 td's of either Alta or Jordan this year. LP lost nearly all of their skill players and don't have a line, although they should still end up 2 or 3 in Region 4. Region 1 will have a good team who will compete, maybe it's Syracuse.
Jordan is going to be good, but their qb led the state in int's last year and didn't handle pressure well, that won't change this season against the better teams. Bingham will be good and Alta will be good. I'll give you Syracuse, Russ Jones does a nice job and they are tough nosed, but in the end Cottonwood will be nowhere to be found.
I would also put Pleasant Grove on par with Lone Peak this year, I don't think it will be just Bingham and LP, I think PG is going to be better than in the past and will give both of those teams all they can handle in Region 4.
