Once again, Herbert has refused to acknowledge that the most important part of a judges job is to preside in criminal cases. Specifically, the governor continues to ignore qualified attorneys who practice primarily in criminal law. In fact, the governor has not selected an attorney with criminal law experience in ages.
The voters must now question Herbert's decision making ability. Is he picking judges in order to gain campaign contributions from large civil firms, or does he simply not understand that criminal law is the most important part of the legal system for the general population?
If the governor is not able to understand the legal system and the part judges play in it, we need new leadership. Perhaps it is time for a governor with a college degree.
