I don't know this kid but from reading this short article and reading his quotes, he sounds like a sharp kid who has his head on straight while considering all options. I am a UCLA fan and they were not on the list, maybe they will come in a bit later. But I wish this kid great success in whatever school he chooses. Congrats young man! Enjoy all this because it only happens once. Please, whatever you do, if they come calling please do not choose USC. Congrats and good luck to you!

I think Stanford would be hard to beat for academics, and they have a great football team as well. Its nice to have a lot of options. Good luck to you.

Four favorites: Utah, Stanford, Cal, Washington

I love the BCS, my BCS membership, BCS quality athletes, and BCS quality coaches.

slightly better than fighting for WAC championships

@ Chris B

Yeah, it has got to be better than the WAC. The Utes were members for nearly 40 years and have exactly zero outright titles. At least you have those two titles that you shared with two and three other teams...not bad for 40 years.

He's planning on going on a mission yet BYU isn't currently in his top four schools. Ouch!! That's gotta hurt doesn't it?

Don't worry - BYU will work on him hard while he's serving. They'll get after his parents too.

@Chrissy B

You might want to try to keep up. The BCS is obsolete in two years.
That whole Conference BCS Crutch won't sustain U anymore, it never really did.

And playing most of your games on the 2-State Rocky Mtn. Regional Channel, won't impress recruits either.

8-11 games on ESPN, same day repeated National Broadcasts BYU-TV and ESPN, that makes a statement. Kids want Exposure, and BYU has it.

Kids aren't dumb, they get it, and the U is lacking. If it's head to head against other Pac schools, fugettaboutit.

Ute fans just can't get BYU out of their minds.
BYU will always be a player with the LDS kids.
Utah won't.

Utes, your problem is going up against other Pac 10+ schools.
If a kid wants the Pac 10+ experience, Utah is not anywhere near the Elite of that league.

11th in Stadium capacity.
11th in Attendance
10th in Academics
Commuter School...Not a College Town.
2nd in their own market.
No Legacy...No National Championship, Heisman Trophy winner, Outlands, College Hall of Famers etc..

Up against the Elite of the Pac 10+, U are just Wannabees.

I'm pretty sure that this article isn't about which school is better, BYU or the U, although it sounds like Utah definitely has a definite advantage over the Y for Barton. It does sound like Barton is a pretty sharp kid and a real talent. Even if he doesn't end up with the Cougs it will be great to see what he does down the road.

Every conference needs a doormat. In the future, it's BYU who'll first play in a BCS bowl.

Salt Lake City, UT

It doesn't quite matter where he commits, he is going straight to the mission field. If BYU wants him badly enough, Brandon Doman will contact him while he is serving.

Kearns, UT

I'd imagine that BYU offer is conditional, much like many of their others are. Conditional that when he chooses a school other than BYU, his offer will be pulled!

54-10. Does EXPOSED count as EXPOSURE in your book?

7 of 10, 3 blowouts. 54-10 last year. If Utah's a BCS doormat, what is miles below a doormat that we can label your Cougs?

Mcallen, TX

In the past six years, who's won the most games? How many WAC, and MWC championships have the utes won? How much TV revenue did Utah get because of BYU?

I won't say doormat, but certainly not on the upper level of the pac.

Salt Lake City, UT

If Stanford offered me a scholarship, it would take me about .2 seconds to say yes. Unless you are a lock for the NFL, it wouldn't be that hard of a decision for me. Stanford is one of the best academic institutions in the world. Maybe it's just the student in me, but I gawk at the thought of getting a degree from Stanford.

Kearns, UT

You did say doormat, straight from your fingers to the computer screen.

Good to see you're so easily backtracking off that nonsense.

It's quite clear no matter what time frame you select, 5 years, 6 years, 10 years, even 20 years, Utah is the better program. Much higher highs. They've been great, not just good. BYU has been good, but never great.

Just keep that in mind everytime you knock on Utah football. If Utah is awful, just keep going down about 4-5 more levels and you'll figure out a description of BYU.

The reason the Y is not on this kids list is bluto and worf keep reminding him how many games they have on ESPN3 with midnight kickoff's. Poor kid realized if he went to Y only true prime time ESPN games he would play in. Would be when his team is getting embarrassed because only prime time slots they get is against good teams.

I guess late night WAC games to pad stats and wins isn't enough for this kid....LOL!(Ducky)

In the history of college football, BYU has been watched on more television sets, with more revenue than the utes. Also been seen live by more sport fans.

Let me make this perfectly clear! BYU is the highest level college football team in the state with Utah State second. The utes will lose to both this year.

Bountiful, UT

Most of you sound silly. BYU and Utah fans are the most insecure sports fans on earth. Get over yourselves.

Y Grad / Y Dad

The shots about BYU working him over while he is on his mission are a little cheap, but the fact remains his odds of ending up at BYU are better than his odds of choosing BYU from the outset.

I can see where that might hurt your feelings.

Hey genius, you can only be "first" at something one time.

That ship has already sailed. That would be like us saying "in the future, it will be Utah who will first win a national championship."

Doesn't hold much water with you does it? Why? Because you've already done it. Would you care one iota whether Utah gets the "first" one from this moment on? No.

Now you know what Ute fans think of that disastrously stupid claim you're making.
