When approached with candor and a lack of shame or embarrassment, most teens are
open and interested in what their parents have to say about sex. But these are
not one-time discussions. Parents need to establish and encourage an open and
ongoing dialogue with their kids about sex. Girls are often overlooked in
discussions about pornography, yet porn use is increasing among women. The
results found in this study are a huge reinforcement and reminder that we can
never underestimate the positive impact parental communication has on teens -
especially father and daughter discussions, specific to this study.
