All baby boomers want the cost of healthcare kept in check, too. So which party---boomers or the CDC----is going to get its way? (Don't bet on the ordinary taxpayer thats getting older and facing retirement.)
"...As many as one in 30 baby boomers has hepatitis C and doesn't know it, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which Friday called for a one-time testing of all of boomers. The viral infection is the leading cause of liver transplants in the United States and can cause liver cancer, the fastest-rising cause of cancer-related deaths...".
"CDC" (Communist Democrat Czars?).
"...one-time testing of all boomers...".
"...viral infection...".
"...leading cause...".
"...can cause...".
"...fastest rising cause...".
Sounds like a script out of an episode of "Glenn Beck's Conspiracy Theatre".
Probably all Service Members who served Overseas (at least in the last three decades) were innoculated against Hepatitus. Shouldn't there be a 'check and balance' before spending million$ needlessly?
The Pharmaceutical Companies need money for campaign contributions so they can buy more politicians, duh.
Ms. Collins, as you see from the comments above mine, there's a recognized cost associated with the CDC's recommendation.
I don't doubt that the professionals at the CDC understand their field and the implications of so many carriers going untreated, but it would be good for the cost of preventative treatment for all baby boomers to be weighed against the cost of non-treatment.
Estimates are possible, and in today's financial and political climate, would be extremely helpful in making any case nationally.
Maybe the CDC could spend some time and money on warning the American public about the multitude of "health threats" that are sneaking across our borders on a daily basis and could conduct a roundup and test them.
Just imagine the profits that Big Pharma could make on that operation and it would be ongoing ad nauseam. Perhaps the Mexican Government would even be willing to kick in some of our foreign aid money to help offset the costs. At least that way we would get some small return on our investment?
