What an amazing woman, wife, mother and how she inspires her family to be healthy and involved. I've decided I'm going to start running again...not like her because I have arthritis in my feet but I have been inspired by this video and want to, once again, start doing something to help me feel better about myself and look better. What a remarkable story...thank you!
My wife and I are marathon runners, both training hard to break the 4 hour barrier. The Flakes are spot on with the things they are doing with diet and exercise. We have found that running long distances naturally leads to wanting to live the Word of Wisdom. We eat lots of whole grain carbs, fresh fruits, and veggies, and yes, vastly reduced meat consumption. I personally have lost almost 30 lbs and have reduced high blood pressure and cholesterol down to normal levels. Also several years ago I had a significant back surgery followed by much pain. After some treatment and easing into running (with proper medical supervision), by back is now strong and pain has virtually disappeared. We have never felt better!
We were talking yesterday about the impact that training may be having in taking us away from other other important life activities. This article was a tender mercy for us. Running is a joy and many multiple benefits from this single activity as described by the Flakes reminded us of why we run, and continue to run.
PS: Deseret News Marathon is a great event! My personal best happened there in 2011. PR 4:11
