RedShirt: "Just look at Joe Lieberman. He used to be a Democrat, until he expressed an idea contrary to the party line."
Now the facts:
In the 2006 CT primary, Lieberman was challenged by an anti-Iraq war candidate. He lost. So then he became an Independent for the general election and won. Lieberman continued to caucus with the Democrats on most issues. In 2008 Lieberman campaigned for John McCain. After the election, Harry Reid, Senate Majority Leader allowed Lieberman to retain his chairmanship on the Homeland Security Committee. He was never told to leave the Democrats and continued to caucus with them on many/most issues.
A huge issue for Utah Mormons who are of the Democrat persuasion should be their support for this President. Can any clear-thinking(Democrat) Latter-Day Saint truly ask us to support this President with the massive debt he has left on our backs and on the backs of our children, our grandchildren, and on their children? This, aside from the sanctity of life which this President lacks, as well as the issue of gay marriage. Big-spending, bloated government with it's accompanying added regulation and intrusion into our daily lives does not cut it with me. It just does not stop. Nope, no support for the Democrats will come from my family.
To "1aggie" in the article "Lieberman Defeated in Democratic Primary" in the Washington Post we read that "Lieberman, accused by many in his own party of being too accommodating to President Bush...marking a fall from grace among his fellow Democrats that came with brutal swiftness and signaled the growing strength of the antiwar movement inside the Democratic Party."
Then, once he was back in congress we read "81% Of Dems Want Lieberman Punished For Health Care Filibuster" in the Huffington Post.
My point is that Democrats are not inclusive of people that do not share their ideology. In reading what happened to Joe Lieberman, he lost the primary due to his impure ideology, and then was viciously attacked by Democrats because he did not share their ideology.
Thanks for trying to refute what I said, but the facts still show that democrats demand conformity to their ideology.
Do not be fooled by the left. Most of their positions and platforms are against church teachings. Those who are LDS and on the left are either "yellow dog" or don't know what the dems actually stand for.
When I went to the democrat convention. I was not impressed at all. The just about the only thing the candidates talked about was LGBT issues. How many clubs they started in High Schools for LGBT people, and how in the world could a LGBT person be a Republican.
That was pretty much it. That was the party platform.
With all of the other issues, it would be nice to see democrats come out and explain what they would like to do; rather than blame Republicans for everything they depise, but, take credit for the financial position of the state which is predominately run by Republicans.
The other topic that was touched on, is how they want to put pressure and attack the LDS church to go along with their opinions. To me that didn't come across that they are wanting to work with those of the LDS faith. My take on it, is they want your vote, but, not your opinion or input or beliefs. The democrats in the meeting I went to were mostly the far left ones that want to force everyone to do as they say.
