Haters may not like Winder's whole fiasco about writing about West Valley, but his intentions were to stick up for his city. I think afterward he handled it more than appropriately and to look at one action and judge a persons whole career from it is wrong. If we can't forgive him then we are even more guilty anyway. I don't like every last thing about any politician out there. I do like a lot about this guy.
Overall, Mayor Winder has been just great for West Valley and having more of that is a good thing in my book.
I'm not sure how much the west side is benefiting from Winder. Winder allowed the city to cosign on the bank loan that built the new Embassy Suites hotel out there in West Valley, putting the city on the line for all those millions. Also, West Valley has made a deplorable run at annexing land nearly out to Kenecott mine, attempting to undercut other cities closer to the mine and depriving the southwest end of the valley of property tax revenue. This has all been unethical and counter-intuitive to overall county planning. It's all self aggrandizement for Winder.
Despite disasters like the sex ed bill and Grama we keep re-electing the same right wing John Birchers. I don't understand Utah voters. I am a Republican and I wish our party would support public education instead oonstantly demonizing teachers and trying to micro manage education. The irony is that conservatives constantly gripe about the federal government policies and turn around and duplicate the exact same policies on the state level.

Oh, so as long as his "intentions" are good, its OK? The ends justifies the means? I don't think so.
Winder's column fiasco showed poor judgement and shady ethics. We have too much of that in government already.
To "forgive" is entirely different than to "trust." I don't trust Winder, and will not vote for him.
Your characterization of those who have a problem with Winder's ethical lapse as "haters" not only shows a lack of judgement on your part, it makes one wonder if you are "more guilty" of judging.
The great thing about this race is that we have a great option: Mark Crockett. He's proven by his record and his career that he's intelligent, articulate, honest, and passionate about keeping the public's trust. Let's show we want these qualities in government and vote for Crockett in the primary.
