Three important points need to be made about whether Ann Romney ever worked a day in her life:
#1: Anyone who says being a homemaker and mother is not difficult or important work never did it!
#2: What work did Michelle Obama do, other than what Ann Romney has done?
#3: This is just another attempted deflection from the left to try to keep the focus off Obama’s record.
All her life Mrs. Romney mixed with women of all financial classes as did her husband. I am not aware of a LDS ward that is exclusively composed of the rich. I suspect she worked in all the phases of an LDS ward. Perhaps that is not work out in public, but to say she is clueless just isn't so.
This comment shouldn't be a shock. The 'tolerant' American left looks down upon, and criticizes anyone who dares believe in a traditional life-style. Stay-at-home Moms are, at best, marginalized by the American left. The only stay-at-home Moms the left likes are the ones who rely on government support.
The bigger issue is that the left is trying to get the nation to wallow in things like a supposed war on women. They REALLY would rather America not look at the record of the past three years.
This is a silly sideshow.
Uh oh...time to backtrack. Hypocrites.
Ms. Romney's response was clear and gracious. The White House's response, "Hilary Rosen? Never heard of her!"
Wow! LDS people are getting a lot of apologies in the press these past few days.
Makes me think LDS people are much better "professional victims" than I thought they were.
You are all misconstruing things.
Hilary Rosen said that Mitt Romney has no business citing Ann Romney as an influence on economic issues as they pertain to women. She's never been a single mom with three jobs raising children; she's never had to make a choice between feeding her kids and paying for her MS care, etc...
I think Hilary's right! Women in the home DO work, stay-at-home moms are the hardest workers out there. But in no way do the 1% moms do not understand what it's like for middle-class or poor single (or wed) moms out there!

"Makes me think LDS people are much better "professional victims" than I thought they were"
I assume the apologies received were deserved. When people put their feet in their mouths apologies are expected. Why would that make those who deserve apologies "professional victims"?
I don't think you can misconstrue "Ann Romney has never worked a day in her life." Ann Romney has worked EVERY day of her life. The game the left is trying to play here is class warfare. They're terribly afraid of someone with the class of Ann Romney and they want to silence her here and now.
Regarding the "1% can never understand"---PLEASE rethink your thinking. We all have struggles. You can't disregard someone just because they don't have the same struggles. I'm not wealthy, but I don't have MS or breast cancer. Am I not allowed to "understand" my friends who have MS or cancer? That would be ridiculous. This is a very cheap game of "divide and conquer". Don't fall for it. We can all be compassionate and understanding of people that do not have the same trials we have. It is absurd to think it would be any other way.
Please don't fall for the games that treat you as less than intelligent.
There's a lot of work that at times seems to go unnoticed done by those who are stay at home moms and even those who stay home and are homemakers whether there are children or not in the home. The work and service they give is often with out pay and at other times at cost to them, but is every bit as challenging and rewarding as the work others do for pay. These stay at home moms and wives can be found in any social and economic background. Is the work these women do any less meaningful just because they don't receive a paycheck?
If you have to actually walk in someone's shoes to have a reasonable opinion, then using that logic, unless you are a working-outside-the-home woman your opinion means nothing to this discussion.
No-one has a corner on suffering.
As a HEALTHY mother, I am impressed at anyone who could do it while not feeling healthy.
Yesterday's feminist valued what men value: money, power and praise. They felt they had to leave their femininity behind in order to be respected (remember the ugly huge shoulder pads and business attire of the '80s?) Luckily, today's feminist is a different generation. We have those first pioneers who broke the glass ceiling for us, so now we get to embrace and value all of the choices we have before us. We can celebrate and value our contributions economically, socially, intellectually, physically and maternally. We no longer feel the need to devalue our closest human relationships (those with our family) to be valued ourselves. Hers was an antiquated view and I am glad to read the President reject them!
It's obvious because Rosen is a working woman that she feels superior to those who stay home and take care of their kids. Her comment clearly expresses this.
THAT SAID, it's not so offensive that we should all be getting worked up over the comment. I've never seen so many people feel so offended by such a simple random comment.
I also disagree with the notion that Ann Romney can understand fully what it's like to be a working mother trying to put food on the table. She hasn't had the experience so can't understand it. We'd feel the same way if Bill Gates' kids ran for office as a Democrat.
But I also don't think it matters. The working poor are not the only constituents in the country that need to be understood. There are plenty of other issues to address and Ann Romney I'm sure keeps her pulse on all of them.
You need to understand that the broader electorate want people in the White House that reflects their personal reality and aspirations. That's why Obama was so attractive in 2008 -- his minority background, working his way to Harvard Law, and then volunteering to work with the poor as a community organizer. His wife, Michelle, had a similar narrative -- successful Black woman who became a prominent attorney, resulting in wealth. It's an American success story.
Romney's narrative is a bit more difficult to accept. Born a wealthy White man, surrounded by wealth and previlege, and he's managed to build on that to become part of the one percent. Romney, unfortunately, reinforces that out-of-touch narrative with his constant talk of "material blessing" -- wife drives three Cadillacs, I have friends that own NFL teams and NASCAR teams, I bet you $10,000...
What I think the average America is taking away from this silly side show, however, is that Romney's wealth and previlege allowed his family the luxury of a stay-at-home mom, something out of the 1950s, that doesn't reflect most people's 21st century economic realities.
Discounting Ann Romney is also discounting Michelle Obama and many other wives of past US presidents who didn't work and chose to raise their kids. There is nothing wrong with a woman who choses to focus on their kids and familiy rather than a career.
Here are all of you conservatives, who generally call those of us who spend every day actually having to earn a living lazy, defending a woman who has never had to bend a fingernail to earn a dime.
And you're calling the "left" hypocrites?
Sure, being a stay at home Mom IS a lot of work, and having a mother at home while you're young is a benefit to children; but the point is that Ann Romney has never had to actually lift a finger to make ends meet. Never. She was born to money, she married into money and she'll die one of the monied. No matter how many people she's interacted with in her life, she's never known what is it actually like to scrimp to get by. You don't fully comprehend things like that until you've actually had to live through it.
Who is Hilary Rosen?
I know a stay at home mom deserves all the praise that can be given for all they do and I join in the choir that is out there singing their praises.
Now, we aren't talking about the stay at home mom that has continually be at the beck and call of 5 sons here. Ann Romney always have money to pay to put her kids in any activity they wanted and I'm sure, but admittedly don't know for a fact, she had nanny's, house keepers, possibly chefs and other hired support that she desired. Is there even one of you that have provided your wife with a nanny??
As far as being a Mormon Bishops wife and mixing with all classes... I call bunk on that. Mormons have rich wards in rich neighborhoods and poor wards poor wards in poor neighborhoods.
For over 3 years, many of you have attacked, demeaned, slandered and vilified Obama. Don't weep when Romneys weaknesses are pointed out. Hillary Rosen?? Never heard of her, but, spot on.
@ MountanMan. What did Michelle Obama do? She had a no show $300,000.00 a year position at some liberal hospital in Chicago. Love you Brother.
Ann Romney does'nt know anything about what? I remind you that Obama is the least experienced person in any room he enters. What he does know is how to bring the greatest Country in the history of the world to Socialism and Communism.
I never met a Veteran who fought for Socialism! If Obama wins another term that is exactly what we all have done.
