Great article about a great man. I just wish that Lavell could have seen byu get an invitation to the PAC 12.
Lavell spent so much time and energy fostering relationships with the PAC 12 schools with the hope that someday byu would be invited. I can't help but think he felt some disappointment watching all the hard work and energy go for naught.
Lavell will go down as byu's best coach. It would do well for any current or future coach at byu to immulate Lavell.
Otis,
Yes LaVell was very disappointed that the PAC 12 didn't extend an invitation. He even said as much.
But he is now 100% behind the independence and is Coach Mendenhall.
Otis
It's sad that Utah fans are so pleased with the religious bigots of the PAC 12 who blocked any invitation to BYU to join the PAC 12. As has been made abundantly clear this year, BYU has a superior overall athletic program, proving that quality of athletics had absolutely nothing to do with the decision not to invite BYU.
In BYU's first year of Independence and WCC play, BYU once again accomplished what Utah rarily has,
finishing in the Top 25 in football and playing in the NCAA basketball tournament in the same academic year.
In fact, BYU has accomplished that more times during the last six years, than Utah has in their entire history.
Congratulations to Coach Edwards for a well-deserved honor.
