I think it was anything but a spirit of cooperation and collaboration. It seems we entered the second year of a long term plan to keep the supply of illegal labor coming. If it was about compassion, you would do anything you could to keep others from falling in the same trap. Our legislatures did nothing but pass a bill that protects those coming here illegally, making it easier for those here and those who come in the future. (and dropping the requirement for drivers ed for those 19 and older, making it easier for those here illegally to get drivers privileged cards with no instruction on our laws)

Herbert won't get my vote. He is not a leader. Instead he let's a group in the legislature run the state.

"Spirit of cooperation"? "the Legislature had no appetite for immigration bills"? The Gov is a bit delusional. Someone locked the door on the committee hearings and wouldn't let the bills see the light of day. I would like to hear from the Gov as to who that was. The voters wanted some voting done on those bills. Shame or should I say sham.

Our legislators are narrow-minded, tunnel-visioned prudes.

They should do away with vehicle safety inspections all together, even UDOT presented statistics that show these types of inspections don't reduce accidents, as 4 of our surrounding states have lower accident rates than Utah, and they don't have "safety" inspections. We are the only state in the West, and one of only 17 in the nation that has to go through this charade in the name of "safety." I'd rather see all of the money that goes into the safety inspection program go to hire new troopers, instead of just some of it as it now stands, and then we'd truly get something that increases safety. One trooper on the road would prevent more accidents than the whole safety inspection program. Senator Curtis had it right, when he said "the buggy industry was upset when Henry Ford introduced the automobile", just like the safety inspection industry was upset when Rep.Dougall introduced the bill to end vehicle safety inspections in Utah, and use the money to hire more troopers. The difference here is, the government didn't mandate that the people still buy buggies, like the legislature has just mandated that we still buy unnecessary safety inspections. Try again next year!

Appalling, embarrassing legislative session. My jaw dropped lower each day: no health education in STD's, gags on teachers, demands for land that doesn't belong to us, anti whistle blowing laws to protect animal abusers... this is a record not just for absurdity but downright immorality.

The legislature waited until the last minute to do their controversial voting on abstinence. If there are supposedly 13,000 constituents in Utah that have signed a petition to ask the Governor to veto that bill, that doesn't exactly show quiet in the background.

There is enough money in the coffers to pay for legal expenses related to "message bills," but not enough money to cap class size in K-3.

Legislators, you have sent a strong message to our children: Your future is NOT important.

Shameful.

"legislators often reminded them cities and counties are political subdivisions of the state and therefore "subservient" to it." We should remind legislators that states are poitical subdivisions of THE UNITED STATES and therefore " subservient" to it.
