"Are you telling me in this day and age, with our levels of critical thinking now, that you won't even question this?"
The true believers won't they have been well conditioned not to question the powers that be.

"I was hopin' for an ABC store, like the fashion show or miracle mile in vegas. That way the average guy could grab a beer and maybe some macadamias while waiting for her to shop."
An ABC store would be sweet. You can't go 2 blocks on Waikiki w/o seeing one. It was a great place to grab a paper and energy drink then go chill on the beach in the a.m.

"I think they are just being provident."
or Hedging their bet. I'd be interested in hearing your position on all the works of art, etc... that the Catholic church has "stored" in the Vatican.
Nothing makes a trip to the temple more spiritual than stopping off at a big shopping mall after a session. Sure you leave the world behind, but you gotta have it as accessible as possible as soon as you get back to earth.
(Anyone think the list of eateries looks more like a list of desert/candy shops? Not a lot of healthy options there...)
@raybies "Not a lot of healthy options there..."
Sounds like an opportunity for you to lease some space and open a healthy eating alternative. You wouldn't be griping just to have something to make a fuss about, would you? I bet if someone gave you a briefcase full of money, you'd complain that it's too heavy.
It's amazing how people will deny anything to fight the church. The truth is that portions will be open on Sunday, and some restaurants will indeed serve alcoholic beverages.
People need to find reasons to hate the church. It's not only illogical, it's setting reason aside in favor of prejudice when you have to make up lies in order to accuse or criticize.
We're all grown ups, but some of us just aren't acting like it.
A hundred years ago when different stores came to Salt Lake people complained that we were becoming too worldly; I think some called the Salt Palace the great and spacious building, when it was under construction. There is nothing wrong with buying clothes and shoes and food. Think of the many jobs (and all the construction jobs the last 8 years) that will and have lifted the standard of living for those employed. Spend less than you earn, but do spend----we all need clothes and shoes and food and clean prosperous communities.
