james why are they not going to the Dee Events Center this year?

why the old Mavorick Center?

I believe that Not one team from Region 1 or Region 2 will win there first round game.

Copper Hills is going to beat Region 1 Winner Northridge,
Riverton will have to play good, but they can beat Viewmont who has seen no competition since its REGION got underway.
Bingham will beat Hunter
The Brighton Weber game is kind of a coin flip, but with Brighton playing Alta twice, and West jordan Twice, (one time was a win) they can win this game because of the Miller Kid
Alta will beat Davis

Lp vs CH
Bingham vs WJ
Brighton vs AF
Riverton vs Alta
my quarterfinal projections!

Making it a simple Final 4
LP, WJ, AF, Alta

Well, you'll be wrong again just like you were about the football playoffs. Have you seen any of the Region 1 or 2 teams play this year or are you just spouting off again thinking that the SL schools are better than the northern utah schools? Weber will win their first round game and if the other teams from Region 1 play well they can beat any of their opponents. (Just like football, NOBODY in the state except those from Syracuse thought they would beat Alta in the first round, but they did)(NOBODY in the state thought that Bingham would lose to little old Fremont, but they did) That's why they play the game. I guess we should just not show up and give the trophy to all the SL schools cause they are better than the schools up here right??

Basketball is a completely different sport and I have personally seen every team in region 1 play this year and they don't compare to the talent of the region 3 teams. The only team with a chance to win on tuesday will be Northridge but it will be a battle. The region 1 teams all have good defensive stats but the problem is they can't score so of course they are going to look good. Region 3 and 4 will dominate this tournament.

I've got to say I agree with James, West Jordan and AF in the final with WJ winning. I also think Alta may make the semi's and LP will make it to the semi's and lose.
I do think there will be upsets along the way, anything can happen in the playoffs and I wouldn't be surprised to see Northride and Weber win a game or two. Brighton can also win a game or two if Miller gets hot.

Papi_chulo relax! First off LP and AF are not SL schools. The represent Utah County, just like you want respect for northern schools I expect the same for UT County schools. They have been thrown into a region with other SL schools. Regions 1 and 2 are very good teams. I had to read your hype all through football. Region did well, but in the end LP won. In basketball LP already destroyed the #1 team from region 2 by 30 points. That is a bad region. I have Northrige and Weber getting to the quarterfinals from Region 1 and Hunter along with Viewmont from Region 2. From there it will be WJ and LP in one semi final and Alta and AF in the other. There are too mant D1 players on those teams. AF beats Alta and If LP gets running against WJ....they win. I then take LP in a wild one over AF in the finals. LP will have something to prove.

My Picks:

5A Lone Peak over Kearns
Northridge over Copper Hills
W.J. over Fremont
Hunter over Bingham

Brighton over Weber
A.F. over West
Viewmont over Riverton
Alta over Davis

Quarters
Lone Peak over Northridge
W.J. over Hunter

A.F. over Brighton
Alta over Viewmont

Semis
Lone Peak over W.J.
A.F. over Alta

Finals
Lone Peak over A.F.

First off, I'm very relaxed LP supporter. I can voice my opinion if I want to. Second, you were not forced to read all my "hype" during the football season. You chose to read it. I'm sure the DeseretNews likes when I comment because it gets people interested and commenting on their articles.

Unbelievable
West Jordan, Utah

In 2004 I can remember when Region II was completely overlooked, all year long, by everyone. Then low and behold they placed two of their schools in the 5A championship game (Cottonwood-Hunter), with Hunter prevailing. Hunter opened that year with an exciting win over a fourth seed Bingham team (1 vs. 4), this year Hunter opens with a third seed Bingham team (2 vs. 3).

Could history repeat itself?

Wolverines 2012 5A state champions! Wo Wo Wo Wolverines!!!

Good luck to all the teams!

As much as I like to remain optimistic I have to also be realistic (region 1 will be lucky to win two games in the first round).

I believe the winner of this years tourney will be the winner of the WJ-LP semifinal, however I wouldn't be shocked to see AF as the team cutting down the net on saturday.

OK People.

You all think that Hunter is going to beat Bingham???

Why?? That region is sooooo bad. Bingham ended 3rd in there own region and Hunter would of got smoked by both Lone Peak and AF in two games during the season. They also would not of made it out of Region 3 or 4, Lehi, and PG both would beat Hunter.

To the guy talking about 2004.
Hunter was ranked #1 or #2 all year, with the big center dude and asiasta and some other guys, you guys were stacked. Bingham was #4 in there own region with a down year.

Everyone was giving praise to your team.

Papi Chulo,

This is not football. This is basketball.
Where not one single team since the 05 Fremont team has won state from up north in football or basketball, or Baseball, baseball has been at least 15 plus years.

Thats the tree main sports. and Not one REGION 1 team, Has a state football, basketball, or baseball title since 2005. Thats why no one shows much love up that way.
Because all region one does is have great games of mediocore teams all playing each other.

PAPI Chulo, from up in the northern part of utah somewhere.

Here are a couple stats Id like to throw your way to why I dont have much respect for Region one in Baseball at all. Football yes up north they do have good teams. Basketball they had good teams yes. But as of 2000. Check it out....

Baseball
1 state title in 4A(Mountain Crest 2009)
0 state titles in 5A

Football
4 state titles in 5A(2000-2002 3 from Northridge) ( 2004 Davis) None Since 2004
5 state titles in 4A (Logan 2000 and 2011) Mountain Crest 2001 and 2005 and Bountiful 2002 and 2003

Basketball
2 State Titles in 5A(Davis 2002, Fremont 2005)
0 State Titles in 4A since 2000.

Since 2000 in Baseball Basketball and Football titles
Utah county 30 titles
SL County 29 titles
Every School north of West High school only 4A and 5A teams are applying here People.
13 state titles and 10 of those are in football. but again none since 2004

I've seen a lot of hs basketball this year. While its no surprise, I think AF, WJ, and LP have some great teams. Among those three I think AF has the best defense. If each team played to the talent they have as a team, LP would win. But at the Maverick Center WJ has done very well.

Region II is terrible. Any team from region II winning would be an upset. Yes even Hunter. Bingham can play and they have a super coach.

I wonder if the winner of the WJ/LP game (if it happens) expends their energy allowing AF to win.

On the 4A side- Orem looks good, but haven't played well for the last few games.

papi_chulo how does the crow taste?

"Well, you'll be wrong again just like you were about the football playoffs. Have you seen any of the Region 1 or 2 teams play this year or are you just spouting off again thinking that the SL schools are better than the northern utah schools?"

I am sure binghamalum has now seen the region 1 and region 2 teams play now. I had not watched any games from those regions, but I did yesterday. WOW, they were not very impressive. (understatement). I stopped the streaming in the WJ game when they were up like 38-6.

Funny that ALL the Region 2 teams are out and 3 were blowouts. The only Region 1 team left was the #1 seed in the mighty Region 1 had to go to OT to put away a #4 seed.

Crow is delicious! A lot better than what you eat at your house. I love commenting on these boards to get all you Salt Lake people riled up...it is sooo fun! and the DeseretNews needs some help in getting readers to read and comment on their stories again.

papi_chulo. I loved your comment:

"Have you seen any of the Region 1 or 2 teams play this year or are you just spouting off again thinking that the SL schools are better than the northern utah schools?"

MEMO to any of the 'Salt Lake People' who did not get a chance to see Region 1 or 2 teams play this year, I have some bad news. You will have to wait until next year.

papi_chulo

@factcheck

To any SL people that wanna see a Region 1 school play can watch Northridge play this Thursday at the "great hockey rink" I mean "basketball arena" in West Valley.

May wanna get your facts straight before you post factcheck. Cause I'm checking your facts and I'm checking them twice.

factcheck
Salt Lake City, UT

papi_chulo is correct, I stand corrected. The OT win by Region #1 over an average CH team that squeaked into the playoffs as the #4 seed, means that Region 1 and Region 2 are a combined 1-7. LOL!

New MEMO to SL folks: Better get to the Maverick Center Tomorrow to watch Northridge get beat by 50. Don't want to miss your last chance to see the one and ONLY team from the great North that got past the first round.
