Google does first ask for consent - when you first sign up for a Google account, they present you with their terms and conditions to which you must agree if you want to have an account. If you don't want to agree to the terms and conditions, you don't sign up for an account with them or use their services.

There are services other than Google to use, if you don't like Google's policies, don't use Google - use Bing, or Yahoo!, or Go.com, or HotBot, or any one of the other dozen or so search engines. (Yes, Google is the most popular, but it is not the only one.)

For once I have to agree with the AG on this issue. Every website should be required to offer and 'opt in' and 'opt out' feature for the customer to decide what information that Google deems I would want to get. For me that is everything all advertiser put on the internet.

Advertising is criminal invasion of my privacy and Google does not have my authority to use any of my information beyond the website or commercial sellers I authorize nor do they have my authorization to use my name or information to sell products I have not chosen to view. All advertizing should have the ability of users to block and keep off their internet searches and use.

From the article: "The website does have a subcategory titled "Transparency and choice," where it addresses how individuals can control their information, even by removing it or changing their privacy settings."

How does one find the "transparency and choice" link?

@ Furry: Go to the Google home page, select "Privacy & Terms" at the bottom of the page, select "New Privacy Policy" at the top of the page, and scroll down to "Transparency and choice".

@ My2Cents: All websites do have an "opt in" option - if you choose to use the website, you are opting in to their terms and conditions.
