The Sandy Location was too far from any major roadways to attract attention outside of the immediate neighborhoods and well... that's Sandy... so not a huge money-maker. If these guys stay close to I-15 they will probably attract a better crowd. Still, it's quite a feat to keep a big fishtank profitable in Utah...
it was nice to have it here in Sandy but would it be better to go back to Gateway to open up with more spaces since some are moving over to City Creak. Or have it at Thanksgiving Point? It would be nice to have a nice Aquarium like in San Francisco which I have seen there.
I love aquariums but the government really has no business helping to fund this. Yes I will go and check it out, and I'm sure I'll enjoy it, but that doesn't change my opinion on the funding of it.
A move by the aquarium to get more visitors, a move by Draper to get tax dollars. Seems more and more restaurants and attractions are moving out of the city itself. Buffalo Wild Wings, the second most popular wing chain in the nation behind Hooters, just opened its first Utah franchise all the way down in Lehi.
DEW--I agree. San Francisco Aquarium is awesome. The petting tanks are so interesting and engaging-for kids, teens and adults. Sea cucumbers and star fish and baby leopard sharks, soft as velvet. And petting the bat rays, who are as excited as little puppies to be petted. So fun.
Hope the new one incorporates some of the proven wonderful features of San Francisco.
