Excellent effort against our rival. Solid defense. You can definitely see the improvement in the Utes over their last meeting with the Buffaloes. Nice job!
SoonerUte, you're joking right? The only improvement was that Colorado played down to the level of the Utes, which is not uncommon when playing on the road.
Only getting to the line 3 times in the game definitely hurt. But not as bad as FG%. That was painful to watch so many go in and out in the first half. Colorado has the best defense in the league, so you know you're not gonna get a lot of open shots, gotta make the ones that you get.
Never gets old! Awesome!
Lots of empty chairs showed up for this one. Some rivalry.
Few go to the game and even fewer bother to comment in the DN.
The joke that has become UTAH Basketball, is all on you chris hill.
You have hired three coaches who have contributed to the demise of the the once competitive University of UTAH Basketball Program.
3 strikes is usually game over.
Has an AD ever fired himself?
Give it a try hill.
Your new rival is dominating you. 'Big boy' conference play is tough.
Ted H. is on to something!
"Lots of empty chairs showed up for this one."
Not sure what your point is.
Are you hoping that low attendance will get a first year coach fired?
Are you hoping that low attendance will get Utah kicked out of the Pac 12?
Are you (still) hoping that the Pac 12 will invite a Utah team with a larger arena?
Despite being in a rebuilding year, Utah averages 8,400+ for their home games, one of the top averages in the Pac 12. Coach K is doing a great job, the Utes are solid partners in the Pac 12, and nobody is sending an invitation down south.
Go back to what you do best -- bragging about your own team "selling out" arenas.
Selling out those 3 and 4 thousand seat arenas. Oh my!
RE:
"Are you hoping that low attendance will get a first year coach fired?" - Nobody really cares...
"Are you hoping that low attendance will get Utah kicked out of the Pac 12?" - Wouldn't matter either way, but it would make for quite a few laughs!
"Are you (still) hoping that the Pac 12 will invite a Utah team with a larger arena?" - Oh HEAVENS NO! Never was, never will... The LAST place I'd want the Cougars to be is the trainwreck that is the Pac whatever...
"...and nobody is sending an invitation down south." - couldn't possibly be more gratified for that! I'd rather have the Cougars in the BigSky Conference than the Pac.whatever...
St. Mary's - could beat ALL the teams in the Pac
Gonzaga - could beat ALL the teams in the Pac
BYU - could beat ALL the teams in the Pac
Loyola Marymount - could beat ALL the teams in the Pac
SF Dons - could beat MOST of the teams in the Pac
heck, even San Diego can take out several teams in the Pac...
You can keep your beloved, underachieving pac...

If there are 8,000+ fans at any home game, I have some great property to sell you in St. George. Get in while the prices are high. The HC is a ghost town. There is no basketball rivalry with any team in the PAC 12, and there may not be for years. This team is poorly recruited, poor at executing game plans, and poor at winning. I appreciate the glass half full attitude, but this glass is still in the sink, dirty, empty, with some cheap lipstick around the rim.
As someone who has lived deep in PAC territory most of my life, with uncles who played for USC, I echo everything BaneOfHedgehog said.
The PAC schools and their fans are some of the most self-important, boorish, whiny and delusional in NCAA sports. From the first whiff of the rumors 3 or so years ago that Utah or BYU might be invited to join the conference until the day the announcement was made, I was loudly opposed to seeing BYU join. Utah deserves the PAC.
There is more hater posting on this article than real Ute fans. sometimes when i read these Ute articles (and its not often), and i see the same people posting who hate the Utes submitting post after post after post telling the world how much they hate Utah tells me one thing...no life and total loser.
There may have been 8,400 tickets sold, but 8,400 people did not show up for the game. There were definately more fans in the arena for the Santa Clara (small gym) than there were at the Huntsman. If this is your new rivalry game, good luck. Didn't seem like there was much interest in the rivalry. Not a single Ute fan has commented on the article in the Rocky Mountain News and no Colorado fans are commenting here
I do have to address two things about the article. The title is misleading. The defense did not dominate. The offense was so poor that it made the defense look good. I didn't see the effort from either team. This was the first full Utah game I've seen since they played BYU. The effort U gave against the Cougs was superior to what you showed today.
This was bad basketball. I toggled back and forth between the St Marys vs Murray St game. If there were no school names on the jersey and you asked someone which was the better game, there would be so hesitation. Conference affiliation is meaningless when it comes to basketall.
Level the playing field in football by getting rid of the BCS and adding a playoff and you will see many "mid majors" as some of the best teams in the country.
Sooner Ute
Let me tell you the point of all of the empty chairs since you pondered the question
The answer is rather simple
Few people want to see such a bad team just like rats abandoning a sinking ship
SU
Your REAL rival scored as many points IN THE SECOND HALF as U scored in the entire game against your pretend rival.
BYU is 12th in the nation in scoring at 79.6 ppg - SIXTEEN games with 80+ points
Utah is 336th in scoring at 56.5 ppg - ZERO games with 80+ points, but SIX games under 50 points.
btw, BYU is also in a rebuilding year; 9 of BYU's 17 players are Freshman, including 5 Freshman who either start or play regularly.
At least U can take solice in a handful of recent moral victories.
AntelopeValleyUte
Not one single post even alluded to hating the Utes; in fact, most of the posts simply stated the facts. If Utah stopped counting the 5,000 Crimson Club season ticket holders who rarily bother coming to games anymore, actual attendance would plummet by about 3,000 per game; that's obvious from all of the empty red chairs in the bottom 20 rows of the HC.
That's pretty amazing - BYU is averaging more ppg than Utah has scored in any game this season. Let's stop sugar coating it, except, on occassion, when a few threes start falling, Utah's offense is just plain ugly.
Utah is improving, but does it really matter?
At best, only a handful of the current starters will see significant playing time next season, and many of Utah's current players won't even make the team next year.
Oh no, you lost to your rival. Ha ha! I still love the sound of that. Colorado is your rival. Oh man, that's funny.
"Defense dominates"??? Yeah, I GUESS you could spin it that way. That was just ugly basketball. Larry Scott called at halftime and asked that those PAC12 logos be covered up -- even the inept "conference of champions" was embarrassed by that one....
It seems like several of the Y fans like to pile on here so a brief history lesson seems appropriate. The 1996-7 season from BYU was the worst every for a major college team in the state with only 1 win. In the middle of Feb that year there was a 12 point home loss to SMU, a 15 point loss at Tulsa, a 24 point loss to Rice, and to cap off the month a 42 point loss at home to New Mexico. At least the Utes are competing and have won 5 times as many games as the record setting Cougars did that year.
