More nauseating pandering from Hatch to the extreme right.
Let's be sure he will be replaced with Pete Ashdown.
I disagree with "One old Man". How she came to the conclusion she could unilaterly make this decision without complete due diligence points to a women who had an objective and was willing to put this administration in a very problematic place to promote her cause. Every administration has these type. Bush had it fare share including its VP who held "private" meetings with oil concerns before the Iraq invasion. Even Reagan had his Ole North.
But to me, this is a low point for the Obama administration. He had been able to stradle that line of government over reach - and this one move reinforced many people criticism of the healthcare bill, and it did so needlessly. Her personal agenda put very much everything in the realm back into play.
One Old Man: Pandering my foot! Why do you refuse to see the violation of the 1st amendment re " Congress shall make no law in violation of religious liberty" or words to that affect. I say 3 cheers for Hatch. The Constitution should govern the administration and Congress all of whom have taken an oath to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution against all enemies both foreign and domestic!
Gag. Hatch has become the personification of everything that is wrong in DC. 35 years later he is a multi-millionaire from his "Public Service". He whines, moans and kvetchs about the state of the Government, an organization where he has senior leadership positions. If he cannot change things for the better, then step aside. Politicians always claim that it is the other guys that are the problem, but send me back so the other guys will still be the problem. Dump Hatch, vote Ashdown
So the federal government was suppose to consult with piuos religious leaders befor mandating that their secular based businesses (Hospitals, etc.) follow federal rules? Really? I wonder if we consulted them before adopting Department of labor standards and child labor laws? OSHA standards? The family and medical leave act? What if these pious religious leaders had so-called religious objections to those? And we're still left to ponder what century this is!
Interesting that when questioning an opponent Senator Hatch is so thorough. Three cheers indeed! But what about covering his own thoroughness? He was deliberately 92% wrong a few days ago-
Unfortunately the White House sharpened its attacks on religion this week. The Obama Administration ruled that it was going to mandate preventative services, including birth control and emergency contraception, for health insurance plans, including those purchased by religious institutions opposed to providing preventative services. This is in clear violation of the religious freedoms our country was founded upon and further highlighted the constitutional defects of the $2.6 trillion partisan health law which Im fighting hard to repeal.
The Constitution and the liberties it protects are supreme not the fleeting and politically driven motivations of any particular administration. Yet the Obama administration, as it always does, has turned those priorities upside down. In this administration, politics trumps absolutely everything else, even the Constitution and religious liberty.
The right for persons and institutions to be free to practice their faith without undue interference by the government is among our most cherished rights. There was a day when liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans, everyone joined together to defend religious liberty. I should know. I was the principal Republican co-sponsor of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which brought together unprecedented grassroots and congressional coalitions to defend this first freedom.
Your fired Hatch this Nov. 2012.
Yack, yack, yack, that's all Hatch does.
Hatch on Ninth Circuit Court Ruling on California's Proposition 8
As a current member and former chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee it is within my responsibilities to watch over the judicial branch of our government.
Last week two federal judges substituted their own values for those of the seven million Californians who enacted Proposition 8. This is judicial activism at its worst, and I strongly oppose this decision. This decision was not about the law, but about judges taking power away from the people. Unfortunately, it was par for the course for the Ninth Circuit, the most liberal and activist in the country.
Hatch, 42 Others File Supreme Court Brief that Obamacare Insurance Mandate is Unconstitutional
ObamaCare is an unprecedented expansion of federal power that violates the limits imposed by the Constitution. Requiring Americans to purchase health insurance against their will is unconstitutional. This White House has shown time and time again that it believes the Constitution is only a bump in the road to achieving their political agenda. I couldnt be more proud to join in this effort to strike down this law
Its amusing that the election of 2012 is going to come down to contraceptives. What about JOBS?? 98 % of american women use contraceptives. Depaul, and Georgetown universities, (Catholic) provide contrception insurance for its employees. This argument, along with most other ones by the GOP is wrong, and The GOP will lose. Obama's approval rating has gone over 50%, Meanwhile Hatch and congress's approval is at an all time low of 10%. See ya later GOP, and Hatch. Obama 2012
Ashdown has about as much chance as Rocky Anderson becoming President....the whole Obama Admin is DIRTY and this is just one more inflaming example of Obamaism!
Sorry to burst Hatch's bubble.
Remember: Norquist is the guy who said he wants to "shrink government to the size where we can drown it in a bathtub." And his speech shows us what we can look forward to if he and his allies are successful: A president who will stand for slashing Medicare, gutting Social Security, and raising taxes on the middle class so they can give the wealthy a break.
Later in his speech, Norquist said all they must do is "pick a Republican with enough working digits to handle a pen to become president of the United States."
That's what we're up against.
From now until November, we're going to be supporting the President's efforts. And we'll be working in states and congressional districts around the country to make sure we keep people willing to pass the Tea Party agenda out of Congress, and people willing to sign it out of the White House.
You may recall that Obama, in order to get Obamacare passed by the House, told clergy that Obamacare would NOT include birth control measures.
I guess he changed his mind. Is that fair and the right thing to do?
At this point its up to the House of Representatives to NOT APPROVE any spending measures until Obama makes good on his promise to NOT include birth control in Obamacare.
The Supreme court may strike down Obamacare altogether, but until then the House has the OBLIGATION to act as a limit to Obama's mandates.
They're the ONLY thing standing in the way of Obama and whatever "mandates" he decides on.
OK Brother Chuck Schroeder - come clean right now. How many screen names do you have that are pro-Republican and how many that are pro-Democrat?
You post as Brother Chuck Schroeder (pro-Republican) but then three comments down there is "The politics of Listening" (pro-Democrat). Both are from "A Tropical Paradise USA, Fl" as their city.
How many people in this world put that they are from A Tropical Paradise USA Fl.

Reply: Your right, good job. I have 5 nic's all are Republican and all end in "A Tropical Paradise USA Fl."
It's a long way of till Nov, 2012, but don't worry, I always vote Republican.
Unless I don't like them.
Then I won't vote at all.
Since when is the Secretary of Health and Human Services REQUIRED to speak with Catholic Church leaders regarding legislation?
The last time I checked, that is not a requirement of the Constitution. Tough luck!
Once again we see Hatch doing what he does best....
Grandstand for the cameras and talk tough about stuff. But, he never actually throws himself in front of the legislative process to try to stop the most extreme abuses by the liberals. He is far more concerned about getting along with his "good friends" like the late Ted Kennedy, and abandons his alleged "conservative" values as soon as he is anywhere east of the Utah border.
Hatch must go. Preferably Dan Liljenquet, but another conservative Republican would be nearly as good.
If Hatch had worked as hard to stop Obamacare as he has to amass $6 million for his reelection campaign, he would not have to be asking the HHS Secretary about whom she consulted with.
Sorry, Orrin, you were right when you said 18 years was long enough for Frank Moss, and now it is time for you to go after double that time.
We need a fighter, not a campaigner.

You may recall that Obama, in order to get Obamacare passed by the House, told clergy that Obamacare would NOT include birth control measures.
------------------
That is not correct. President Obama stated that the Affordable Health Care program would not cover elective abortion. He kept his word -- it doesn't.
One old man
Sorry you disagree with the 1st amendment protections for religion
ParkCityAggie
So if you run a soup kitchen â secularly based business providing food â you cannot observe your religion there? I guess most downtown rescue missions across the country need to close their doors
Homebrew
It goes beyond contraceptives. The core of the matter is BO dictating to religious organizations what they can and cannot do. Itâs a 1st amendment issue, not a contraceptive issue. I am sorry you cannot see that.
1conservative
BO lies â are you not used to it yet?
beside birthcontrol in Obamacare:
no lobbyists in his adminiatration
cut the deficit in half (he tripled it)
close GITMO
cut healthcare costs by $2500 per family per year
unemployment won't go above 8%.
etc etc etc
Since when is it necessary for Government Agencies to get the approval of Religious Organizations for ANY Legislation?
Answer: NEVER
'Sebelius tells Orrin Hatch she did not consult with bishops on contraceptive mandate' - article
Not consuting with bishops is now a criticism?
Watch out!
Theocracy.
